Default pedestrianised area

Hi guys

Whilst new to this form I have been a visitor to the Port on numerous occasions and last visited on 07 when they were about to start work on the front. Have booked a flat for Aug overlooking roundabout at marina and wondering if all work has been completed and if the usual traffic noise has been reduced any. Thanks in advance
Bobby

As far as I am aware there is no pedestrianisation as such.

Public traffic has been stopped from going along the seafront between Bar Imperial and Tolos. Service vehicles , the police and maybe busses still are allowed to pass. So it should be much quieter with through traffic using the new ringroad.

The signs, when I was out in Feb, were not very clear and I saw some vehicles stopped by the police.

I have just found a photo that I took where the beach front road has been pedestrianised, they were taken in November when the road was very quiet.
This is just where Tamarels beach bar is near the Hotel Pollensa Park.

Couldn't add it but have added this photo and several others to my flickr photos link.

I heard from a reliable source yesterday that the road closure has been suspended. Also Temple Fielding is now no longer a one-way street the signs have been removed.

Sounds as though it was just a way of getting people to use the new bypass, I thought it was a great idea, much safer for children and just when people were getting used to it. Although a little bit of forward planning could have made such a difference.

Council are to look at this pedestrianised plan again, there are concerns about the fact that 4 businesses on the front line have already closed and the season hasnt even started. also, as far as noise ,the signs by the Imperial Bar direct traffic back in to the car park and then back on to the bus station roundabout which lost and confused drivers go round and round wondering how to escape!

Today all the no entry signs have been removed and the road is open again along the sea front in both directions

Well....I am glad I never booked any apartments on that stretch then!
Lots of them advertised now as pedestrianised area!! Which would have suited me fine!!

Default End of the pedestrianised area

Just got back yesterday but witnesed all the 'no entry' and 'one way' signs being taken down. Huge numbers of cars now parading back and forth right along the front between Tolo's and the roundabout. Saw one cyclist hit by a car in the first hour! Maybe because half the visitors thought it was safe to ride that stretch with slightly less care. I know it has been a hotly contested scheme which seems to have the backing of visitors but not locals....I just can't see how the cafes and bars along the front will benefit if customers are bombarded again with noise and fumes?

But a lot of the businesses said they had lost trade because people could not get to them easily.

I really don't see how local businesses can say this as the road didn't close till October'ish (can't remember exactly when) last year, when the tourist season was at an end and most of the restaurants and shops on that stretch had either closed or were closing for the season. This area is mostly served by the people walking past not the motorists and there would be more people walking past if it was wider and safer to do so,
