Hi lovelysongbird
Welcome, this is a forum for and about Pollensa, I doubt if you will get anyone here saying that Cala D'or is better?

We have not been to Cala D'or, but without doubt you will have a wonderful time if you come to PP.

Regards

Welcome to the Forum.

I have been to both and as mentioned above I much prefer PP. For me one of the main reasons is that both Puerto Pollensa and Pollensa Town are real working towns with markets, schools, every day shops etc. and to an a certain extent are 'open' all year round. Cala d'Or felt very artificial in comparison but I will admit that it also seemed a lot cleaner so it really would depend on whether you are just looking for a holiday 'resort' or would like something more. I've met very few people who have visited PP & didn't want to go back.

I haven't stayed in Cala D'Or, but my wife has. Her verdict is that PP is a "proper place" while CD is more a created resort. Interestingly, I don't think that there is a Cala D'Or website - which might tell you something.

You will find that most of the subscribers to this website are long term PP visitors. Make your own choice - but ignore PP at your peril!

Default Cala'D'Or

I have never been but have heard great reports. Is there anybody here who could expand on Cala'D'Or and tell a wee bit about it? It would be interesting to hear the differences and perhaps where PP could "learn" if thats the right phrase, from another resort.

Havent got too much to say re Cala D'or as I didnt make any notes whilst we were there! Went a couple of years ago with 4 friends and had a lovely villa through Majorca Farmhouses. There are some good restaurants on the outskirts worth finding out about. Cala Dor itself, yes, more commmercialised than PP, but found it quite a pretty place, with plenty of choices re restaurants or snack bars, shops varied and interesting. Bit hilly in places if I remember rightly, not extremes, just added character.
We did like it there and would definately go back. Its different from PP in the fact that it is larger and therefore more impersonal, but I dont remember feeling that it was tacky in any way. Hope this helps a little.

We are regulars in PP as it is a fantastic place for both children and adults. We have visited Cala D'or but wouldn't fancy staying there. PP is very different, bigger/better beaches, more spacious, not as overtly commercialised, and certainly not 'tacky'. Try it, you won't regret it!

I've had a lovely holiday in Cala D'or....no complaints at all!! Then I discovered Puerto Pollensa and have returned over and over again since!!
PP just had that something extra for me!! Our taxi driver told us Cala D'or had got a bit tacky over the years but maybe one day I will revisit to find out for myself!!??

A number of years back we stayed at Cala D'or for 2 years running (pre PP days of course). We actually stayed in Cala Egos in a place called martha's...a 10 min or so walk from the marina and from there you could walk around it and into the main area of Cala D'or (or a short taxi ride otherwise)...at the time it suited us - with a 5yr and we wanted a resort not too large and commercialised.but since then discovered PP...(roll on April/July and October )

We have stayed in Cala D'or several years ago and loved it, however we discovered PP on a day trip out round the island and guess what - we now holiday in the north, either PP or CSV. I think what we love about PP is the walk along the front, at Cala D'or it is small bays until the Marina so not as pleasant a stroll on an evening. We have also stayed in Sa Coma and that had no character really, and I would never return to Santa Ponsa in the south! In an ideal world I would have a PP holiday and then another...maybe one day.

Can't believe no ones mentioned the beaches in cala Dor. The words Sardine and tin comes to mind. If you like a beach thats large with plenty of room then you can forget CD. Although if you wanted to see one of the best beaches on the island a 20 min drive from CD will get you to cala Mondrago and that is definately worth the run.
