The night they got through to the semi-finals, we were in Eolo enjoying a late night pizza. There was a flotilla of cars with flags waving and constant sounding of horns centering around the roundabout.
Service was very slow as the staff were all glued to the TV - I imagine it would be non-existent tonight?
No doubt a terrific atmosphere though and well done to them

Eine was fur Shande ( Oh what a shame ) !!!!!

Oh what a night. One of those memorable nights here last night. First time Spain had been in a major footy final for over 40 years and it corresponded with the festival of San Pedro. This is the night that the giant figures ( St Peter) and a woman ( the Madonna ???) are taken from the Church , put on a boat and accompanied by a flotilla of fishing boats , then sailed round the bay. Saturday night we had a free sardine supper with dancing harbour side.

Beautiful hot evening, the Port was absolutely heaving, but poor old San Pedro was going to have to take a back seat cos there was only one event that preoccupied us all.

Early din dins , every restaurant /bar packed to the gunnels and tables near TV sets at a premium. This being a predominantly British resort unlike Cala Ratjada or Alcudia , the Brits abandoned their Man U shirts and many bedecked now in the red of Espana. Service grinds to a halt as the game kicks off. Torres lifts the ball over Lehmann and the rest, as they say, is history.

The whole place goes ballistic at the final whistle. King Carlos and Queen Sophia embrace and kiss the heroes ( Can you imagine our HM kissing the Rooney !!!! ).

Everyone flocks to the Square and the all night party starts. Motorcades of cars honking, fireworks, spanish flags flown, people on car roofs and leaning dangerously out of moving vehicles. We all flock home at 3 a.m. cos work beckons this morning .

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Viva Espana and Eine was fur Shande !!!!

Lucky you Bonyslad, i got a taste of the festivities when i phoned Paco in the Golden Lion. Still i had my own celebration with a bottle of Cava. Those Spaniards know how to party don't they. VIVA ESPANA.

Red face Football??????

Please could you lot keep down the noise?
Some of us were doing the decent thing and supporting our adopted country last night.
(Only to keep in with the neighbours, of course!)

What time is it?

What day is it?

Why are they still blowing car horns at 2 in the afternoon?

Time for a siesta!!

San Miguel,

Is that you still making a noise ?

Have just walked around the Port to see if my Spanish friends all survived the night?

Now 10.20 p.m. here ( another beautiful hot night , just to wind up our UK readers !!!! ) so time for an early beddy byes , methinks .

Wonderful, wonderful time !!!!

LOL! We had it on the telly in the villa but were sitting outside. Didn't need to see the score - we heard the fireworks and car horns!!! Now that's how to celebrate!

We were eating in La Fortelesa when Spain won the footy - Martin cracked open a few bottles of champers and very good it was too. I thought there may have been signs of celebration the following Sunday when Nadal won at Wimbeldon especially as he is Mallorquin but I didn't hear a single horn toot!!
