Default pin numbers in PP

I wonder if anyone can give me some information on using credit cards in supermarkets eg Cabarrara??. Whenever we go shopping, if we use a credit card to pay we are always asked for some kind of identification either our passport or driving license. I was wondering since the chip and pin numbers are used here in the UK whether we can use them abroad.
We have 18 days to go Sat 18th, I can just see us now sitting in the Square on Wednesday morning listening to the music and soaking up the sunshine.

Thanks for any info

Hello y parc

I used my Switch (Maestro) card at Palma Airport when I bought a few things in the "Duty Free". Although I have a pin number, I was just asked to sign a receipt.

I was very surprised I could use it - the first time I ever have abroad, apart from using it to obtain money from a "hole in the wall".

I'm not sure that the "Chip & Pin" would be the same in Mallorca as in the UK. We in Northamptonshire were among the first to trial it but I'm not sure whether it has made any difference to card crime.

Regards
Jane

It is normal to use either your photocard UK driving licence or passport as ID together with your credit card. Most places require it. I haven't seen any pin and chip card there yet. Our La Caixa bank doesn't have them.

Hello Jane Roy and Katie

Thanks for the info, i had a word in my Bank today and the chip and pin are not available abroad yet anyway except the hole in the wall, so will have to make do with that.
15 days to go
