Denzil,

I think you are referring to the yellow military plane that takes off from it's base at the top end of the Pine Walk.

These planes are used for fire fighting duties. They can scoop 100's of litres of sea water "on the move" and deposit where required.

I suspect training requirements dictate flying times but they seem to flie most days in the summer.

hope this helps.

Regards,

jimbo

The plane flies a little ( very :eek ) too low over our apartment most mornings!!!

Apparently one day they picked up a snorkeller in the bay and he was found dangling from a tree in the mountains.....urban myth ??? Who know's :\

We were in PP soon after the 9/11 events and the seaplane was doing low sweeps just skimming the top of the Daina, the highest building in PP.:eek

Were amazed they were doing it and thought that wouldn't continue. After seeing it a couple of days we saw no more in the remainder of our two weeks.

Default Sea Plane Show

There is supposed to be a Sea Plane Show in the bay later in the year, with the yellow plane and "classic" sea planes taking part.

I've been trying to find out when too!

Anybody know anything?

Frito.

July 2004 the red arrows (or something similar) were in PP for an air show of some type - could it be something like this is to be repeated? We watched them practice over the bay the day before but had left by the time of the show.

The 1st International Meeting of Seaplanes in PP starts on the 6th September with various exhibitions and conferences, the flying seems to be on the 14, 15 and 16th.

Default Sea Plane Show

Thanks a lot.

I just hope they don't all line-up their flight path over my apartment like the yellow fire plane seems to do.
(or am I just paranoid?)

Cheers!

We were there most of Septmber and never saw any air show, although the sea plane did swoop, in even lower than normal, over the beach one afternoon didn't it bella!!!!

Did the show never go ahead or was I having a siesta when it happened? :rolleyes
