Ferry to Mallorca

Hi, we always fly to Mallorca but this year we are travelling with my brother who wont fly (remember Mr T in the A team and times the fear by a million!) so we want to travel from Barcelona by ferry and wondered if anyone had done this? Any advice on which company, cost and time would be great. Have been on some sites but cant seem to get any prices beyond begining of June.

Thanks in advance.

Sally

The ferry company is called Transmediterranea. They do Barcelona/Palma & Barcelona/Alcudia which is much easier for Pto Pollensa.

I've done both journeys & thoroughly enjoyed them.

There's also a ferry from Sete in Sth France to Palma which is also excellent but I can't remember the company.

Just do a Google search! I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

ferries

When I drive to mallorca. i leave wales for poole and get the ferry to le havre and have a stunning 800 mile drive through brilliant countryside. I have never suceeded with the sete ferry as it is a seasonal ferry that is expensive and takes for ever. Best go to barcelona and use transmediterania. The ferrie sleave at midnight and take 8 hours to get into palma. Get off ferry and I am home in Santa ponsa in 25 minutes.

Great !!!!!!!

There is also a faster catermeran ( less than 4 hours) as well as the overnight ferry.

A few details on this useful website for people that dont like flying:

A good price ferry company to get from Dover to Boulogne is Speed Ferries:
http://www.speedferries.com/

We take the following route through to get some nice scenery but also using motorways:
Day 1: Ferry from Dover to Boulogne. Drive from Boulogne to Evreux
Night 1: Stay in Evreux
Day 2: Drive from Evreux to Clermont Ferrand area
Night 2: Stay in Royat (lovely small spa town just outside Clermont Ferrand)
Day 3: Before seting off today, visit the Puy de Dome (huge volcano just outside Royat).
Drive from Royat to Barcelona via the spectacular Millau Bridge This section of the road (A75) has some stunning scenary and apart from the Millau Bridge, is toll-free.
Night 3: Overnight ferry from Barcelona (use Trasmediterranea)
If you don't want to use the Trasmediterannea website to book directly, a good agent to use is Southern Ferries Travel Ltd- Tel: 0844 815 7785.

The Michelin route-planner is very useful (we don't have satnav):

My son and his mate, both 19 at the time, drove from Norwich to PP last summer - just because they thought it would be a bit of an adventure and we had had a nasty experience going home from PP the previous year, so the thought of flying was not a positive one.

I spent a week going through their map and planning a good route, avoiding Paris and taking them through lovely scenery - they had also thought they would take a tent and camp as France has some great sites - but I did book the first night in a cheap hotel.

So far, so good - the first phone call on day two was from a totally excited and stressed out son, who, completely ignoring my map, had used the sat nav and gone round the Arc de Triomphe - about 9 times I think - trying to get off the roundabout! He seemed to think it had taken 10 years off his life. After that, they entered a peage and guess what - spent the next 3 days on the toll roads, paying out a fortune. I also received a phone call every day "Mum, do you think you could just book us a hotel for tonight - we are near Toulouse", "Mum we are coming into Barcelona - a hotel would be good"! and so on and so forth.

They used Acciona to get to PP from Barcelona on a catamaran - more expensive of course - but only 4 hours.

They had a brilliant trip, it took 5 days altogether and really enjoyed Toulouse - arriving on the day of a music festival - more stories of my son's friend trying to park the car, after checking into the hotel, and spending at least an hour finding his way to and from the car park, because of said festival , as of course, the sat nav was sitting safely in the room!

Barcelona was also great and they ended up there for two days.

The journey home was less fun and they did it in 4 days as the need to get home was greater.

I am sure they would recommend it - and I would do it if we had the time to do the road trip first. The boys are flying this year - I'm sure a little therapy and a valium will sort them out!!
