Exclamation Security.

Just a reminder to you all, now that the season is upon us and with more people about it is easier for pickpockets to operate, please be careful with your wallets, purses etc. The main areas to be on your guard are markets, shops, bus stops and buses but i have heard of a couple of cases where a guy stops someone around the ATMs asking for directions then another approaches and gets involved and one of them takes a wallet or purse.

It is no worse in PP than anywhere in the world but please do not drop your guard and don't become a victim.

Good advice, Sparky.

And don't forget, you can become a victim of the "Lebanese Loop" ATM scam just as easily in Pollensa as you can anywhere else. And, yes, we've been a victim in the UK. The scam is that the bad guys put a "thingy" in the ATM slot which retains your card. You then leave and the bad guys come and remove the thingy and card (and have used a mini camera or binoculars to spot your PIN number being entered). Within minutes, hundreds can be out of your account.

My advice is to carry the phone number of your bank's customer services and ring them IMMEDIATELY if a machine holds on to your card. Do it while you're still stood at the machine!

Good news today, reported in the MDB.

Quote:
Arrest of twelve market pickpockets.

The Guardia Civil has arrested twelve members of a criminal gang that was specialising in theft at crowded markets and other places in Majorca. They are all between the ages of 20 and 38 and of Romanian nationality and face charges of offences against property...............

Searches were made at a hotel where members of the gang were staying. Among items recovered were mobile phones and watches in addition to items that had been stolen from shops. Alcudia, Cala Millor and Pollensa have been specifically identified as locations for the thefts.

Unhappy Mar senses hotel

I am reading reports of burglary there in the last couple of weeks, apparently the room safe was taken along with a suitcase full of belongings. Is this a common issue in PP.

It's an UNcommon issue in every single hotel in the world.

If it did occur I am sure that both the hotel management and the Guardia Civil are dealing with the problem.

No it's not. Hotel safes are notoriously easy to break into, particularly the battery operated ones always "hidden" in the wardrobes!!!
I won't reveal how it's done obviously.

Yep! It's on TripAdvisor PK, reported under the Heading "Burglery" - June 2016 I think.

Doomed, doomed. We're all doomed, Captain Mainwaring.

So, we sensibly put things in the safe and someone blags everything by either the default code trick, or the paperclip in the secret lock trick. Or, we hide things elsewhere in the room and make it really easy for them to blag everything. Or we always take everything out with so the room thieves can tell their pickpocketing mates that we're out and about and just waiting to have everything blagged.

We are coming back to PP in September and the apartment we rent doesn't have a safe. I was wondering if any of the banks have any safes to rent?
Btw. Can't wait to return😁

If you're close to one of the hotels or aparthotels it might be worth asking whether there's a possiblity for outside guests to rent a safety deposit box?
Not sure if anyone in PP offers such a service though.

Enjoy counting the days
