Harters, well done with your various reports. Where do you find the time?
I started to give "likes" for each one but decided to save energy by just giving you a LIKE for them all.
You like me seem to have your favourites but are not adverse to trying new venues.
There have been comments regarding the lack of reports of all types in recent years possibly due to the increased use of other major sites. I think that is what lots of dinners are doing at their tables rather than concentrating on their food and company!

Well done again.

So this is interesting....I use the same name (rockape) on an Arsenal fan forum I frequent occasionally and have mentioned at some point my love of Puerto Pollensa.

I had a message from another member, who said this:

Hi Rockape,

I have a place in Pollensa too and read the Forum most days. There's been a few comments recently about there being fewer posts. I suspect that that the existing members probably don't know that, for at least three years, it seems no-one has been able to join. I've written a few times myself to ask to join but not had a reply. It would be nice to get a few more people added. I've tried Facebook but I think the Forum has much more potential. I realise that the new owners might have been busy.

Do you think you might mention this on the Forum in the hope of getting the process working?

(Just looking and it seems the last new joiner was over two years ago. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would like to join.)

If it is the case that new folk can't sign up, then it's not surprising that there are fewer posters as there will always be some "old timers" who drop out for a variety of reasons (mine being that I hadnt been back to the area for years).

Perhaps "those in the know" could comment on the accuracy of the comments from Rockape's fellow Arsenal fan?

There's a message on the register-page, about the online registration being disabled and for new members to send an email.
Perhaps there is an issue with the email address given?

What has happened with our wonderful forum?

Personally I go back to about 2004. Despite it saying I joined 2008.

There had been the "Great Hack" which some will remember where a lot of history was lost!

So much of the info on hotels restaurants etc is so out of date.

Can't believe there is no interest due to social media nonsense that peeps are interested in nowadays.
So come on now answers please!

Porto!😣

Hi and sorry for the deafening silence.
I have had a poorly daughter to look after and my in-laws have just arrived who we haven't seen for 6 months.

Unfortunately we didn't know there was an issue until now. We assumed everything was ticking along nicely with the software and have to hold our hands up, we didn't notice it.

There is a limiting system set up in the background to prevent spam bots from joining the forum, but we need to check the tech for errors as something isn't working. We definitely need to make sure genuine people can sign up easily.

We messaged the tech guy today and will try to find a solution. It's obviously something that will help the forum so we need to work it out and appreciate the effort made to point out the issue.

We know everything on the website is way out of date, it's been on the to do list for far too long now which is sad as we're really passionate about it but settling in to life here has its hurdles and the website has had to take a back seat.

However, we have recently met with and instructed a great company based here in Puerto Pollensa to do the website revamp. They are super enthusiastic so all being well, PP will have a new look website full of updated information again soon.

So, there seems to be two issues.

One is a system issue, in that online registration has been disabled because of spammers. That's an issue common to all forums and others seem to find ways round that whilst still maintaining online registration. Hopefully, the company doing the revamp will be able to advise.

The other issue seems to lie elsewhere. With online registration disabled, folk are now invited to email to ask to join. Absolutely fine in itself. But, if as suggested earlier, folk are emailing but not getting a response, allegedly for years, then that seems like a human issue (unless the email address is wrong). It does seem odd that no-one has spotted that there have been no new joiners for a very long time. Of course, site admin will know exactly what has happened or not happened and should be in a position to rectify it (or not).

All the issues boil down to everything being old and vulnerable. The site still gets attacked almost daily. The attacks saturate the site and then it isn’t reachable because it hits its safety limits. When all the new tech is put in place we won't have this problem.

I also can't log in to the emails and I'm sure this is all connected in some way. Will keep working on this.

We're going to move the forum to a new software that's very similar to the software that we have now and so will be the easiest transition for everyone as we hope everything will transfer over fairly seamlessly.

We actually paid to have this done once but couldn't launch it (with covid the time wasn't appropriate.) Now we're getting the site redesigned we'll get this done alongside it - hopefully it will be a nice fresh start.

The current site and software was fantastic in it's day but change and an update is long overdue.

So for the time being we'll have to accept that there will be a few blips here and there, but hopefully in the near future it will all be sorted.

Thank you
