News reports 2022

some new traffic laws on the way from March 2022

https://www.majorcadailybulletin.com...-pavement.html

Quote:

Electric scooter riders have been ordered off the pavement and from pedestranised zones in tough new traffic laws which come into force in March, the Spanish government announced this morning.

Bike riders will also have to wear a safety helmet at all times. ...
Using your mobile telephone while driving (without a hands free device) will be punished with a heavy fine.

Throwing an object from a moving car window can cost you a 500 euro spot fine.
You will lose four points on your licence if you do not properly use the safety belt.

The cycle helmet law is going to ruffle a few feathers isn't it. The locals out shopping tend to not wear helmets which is okay under the old law (you must wear a helmet at all times except when in town our excerpting yourself) but now its going to force all of those folks to wear a lid... wont be popular.

I wished that the law regarding riding on pavements etc. in the U.K. were enforced especially as electric scooters in private ownership are not allowed on any public areas. Do not get me started on why those under the control of some local authorities are!!

EL CELLER LA PARRA RECEIVES A NATIONAL AWARD FOR ITS TOURIST QUALITY.

Exactly 60 years ago, the La Parra winery in Port de Pollença opened its doors on Carrer Joan XXIII in Port de Pollença, and since then it has become one of the most emblematic restaurants on the whole island, always managed by the Gual family. This tradition, the quality of their food based on Mallorcan cuisine, the fact of always working with local products and companies, and the quality of their service is what has made them deserving of the third prize in the most competitive Tourist Service category. 2021, awarded by the Integral System of "Tourist Quality in Destinations" (SICTED).

The award was presented yesterday at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) which is being held this week in Madrid. The mayor of Pollença, Bartomeu Cifre, picked up the award on behalf of the Gual family who were unable to attend the event.

So well deserved!
Top of the list of the family favourites.
Long may they continue.

A richly deserved reward. Whatever time of year we have been the food and service has been first class. And always at a good price.

check passport validity and expiry date

https://www.majorcadailybulletin.com...-validity.html

Quote:

British travellers to Mallorca are being urged to check the validity of their passport after a British woman, bound for the island, was turned away at airport check-in.

...

The reason for this is a Brexit rule which came into force after December 31, 2020.

...

Passports must meet 2 requirements. They must be:

• less than 10 years old on the day you enter (check the ‘date of issue’)
• valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)
People should check both the issue date and the expiry date in their passport. If you renewed your passport early, extra months may have been added to its expiry date and could affect the requirement for your passport to be less than 10 years old.

You can find more information on all the entry requirements for Spain at
https://www.gov.uk/foreign.../spain/entry-requirements

If you are a UK National living in Spain and covered by the Withdrawal Agreement, you do not need any extra months on your passport to enter or exit EU countries.

Makes you wonder if the builders got the relevant approval(s) from the numerous entities that will have been involved with authorising this work ?

bobley 08-03-2022 16:27

I went to look at these last week. It look me a few seconds to realise they are on the far side of 2 rows of trees and the car park and just block the view of the marine workshop ?

People literally going bezerk over a none event.

Disorderly 08-03-2022 17:47

I’ll bet they will sit there unfinished for months while the arguments continue and will look truly dreadful throughout the season. If the car park remains unfinished too, that’s going to impact upon the existing difficulty in finding parking at busy times.

Gommar Goffer 09-03-2022 09:21

If the ticket booths are not finished, what are the tour companies going to do?

bobley 09-03-2022 10:16

It's the poor diners in Los Faroles who will have to stare at a building site this summer I feel sorry for...

PPToni 09-03-2022 10:27

Literally no common sense used!

I've been past this morning and it looks like the work on the car park/paving is still happening so at least that should be finished.

Rockape 09-03-2022 12:00

This was the view prior to the building works.

Not exactly a fine view of the bay! I can't imagine it will be any worse with those new structures.
