Current Covid19 Situation

Was wondering if anyone could please update us on the current covid situation.
We are hoping to still fly out next week - but finding it difficult to obtain up todate details as to if things are getting worse, remaining the same or actually improving? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We have been here for 7 weeks and feel safe and very welcome, Mallorca has done very well to ensure (as much as you can) that people are safe.

I’m afraid that the infection levels in Mallorca are higher than they were a few weeks ago, and certainly higher than where I live in the U.K. But that’s not going to put me off coming out this Sunday. Everyone in PP seem to be very sensible so I don’t have any more worries than I would at home.

Thank you for your positive replies - still a couple of days yet to make up our minds so any other other thoughts or experiences especially with regard to the situation in the restaurants would be greatly appreciated.

We were really impressed with all the restaurants set ups. The tables at the places we ate were all really well spaced. You walk in wearing your mask, they find your seat, once you've sat down you can take off your mask. There was one place who didn't want us to take our masks off until we had ordered - which is their perogative and was fine by us.
All the staff wore masks everywhere. You put your masks back on if you want to use the toilet.

Honestly everywhere felt very safe and well organised.

We didn't go to the supermarket, but I think out of anywhere, this could be the place where social distancing may be an issue, but I may be wrong?

We have been here six weeks and I would agree with all that is said, with one exception - supermarkets.

We went to Alcampo last Saturday which was heaving. The busiest I have ever seen. Although everyone was wearing masks, social distancing was impossible.

The same appliies to Eroski and Lidel. Although all have handwash, Eroski always seem to have run out of paper towels to clean your trolley. At Alcampo there is a man cleaning the trollies as you enter.

Other than that, it is quiet and the sun is shining

PPToni the mask rule has changed and you now need to wear your mask until you receive your food or drink and replace it once you have finished, when you are just sitting chatting.

Oh right. A week ago when we were there we expected to have to do this but only one place asked us to keep our masks on and that was until we had ordered, not until the food/drinks had arrived.

Things are changing so frequently...

The situation is changing quite quickly here. From Friday, masks will be mandatory in most public places including on the promenade, and meetings of more than 10 people will not be allowed.

This follows a significant number of infections here. There were 279 hospital admissions yesterday including 37 to ICU

our hotel cancelled us yesterday, so no trip for us this year - first time missed since 2003. Just hope they are still around next year.

Looking at the official sites the infection rate has been getting much worse.

On todays update the 14 day infection rate per 100,000 for Balearic's shows as

237 per 100,000 Balearics

Spain as a whole 183 per 100,000

UK average is 22.5 per 100,000

Busy UK tourist cities such as York are about 7 per 100,000

Quiet parts of East Yorkshire about 3.5 per 100,000

So it is fair to say balearics are in a mess this month.

As you have booked and might not get a refund it is probably reasonable to travel.

Just be extra cautious and presume everything you touch is infected.
Avoid crowded shops etc.

Staying in a villa or townhouse or apartment will be much safer than a hotel.

As you are from an area of UK with low infection rate just do similar precautions as at home as York has done well even though it is a busy tourist city so the people from York must have been careful.

UK appears to be badly organised yet shows a low rate.
I don't believe the low official UK figures really.

We are hoping for an October holiday as previous two holidays this year where cancelled as they where during the initial lockdown.

I am beginning to think October is now unlikely as the second wave looks to be starting everywhere.

Thanks for this information Mark - like you, we have cancelled two holidays this year and are booked to come in October, but because of the travel insurance implications, although our flights are still operating, we are now very doubtful (and fed up) We have just checked with our insurers and they confirm that our total travel insurance would be void for that trip. I did wonder if it was just covid that we would be uninsured for - but it covers everything.

Thank you for all the information above - As we were still feeling a little uncertain regarding the current situation we have decided we will still go to the villa but are only coming for 7 nights now instead of 14. I will post on our return and let you know how we got on.

As from today Mallorca along with other regions now has a curfew from 11pm until 6 a.m
The regional government have not put any travel restrictions in place at the moment, but with the state of alarm are allowed to prevent travel between regions.

Thanks for the information, we are due out on the 4th with parents joining us for a few days from Murcia on the 7th - concerned now that they may not be allowed to travel from the mainland, and through the different regions, so will be keeping an eye on any future announcements closely!

Covid

If I read it correctly, it seems that the Spanish Government are hoping to extend this ruling for another 6 Months. Can anyone confirm that, because we are then getting to the region where they are threatening next season as well.
