Default News reports 2020.

This from the MDB :-

Hotels delaying opening until May because of falling demand.

Easter Sunday is only nine days earlier this year (12 April) than in 2019, but this is sufficient for hotels in the Balearics to be planning delays in opening for the season until May.

The president of the Association of Hotel Chains, Gabriel Llobera, says that the earlier Easter means that hoteliers aren’t willing to risk having a few days in April when they have occupancy but will be mostly empty for the rest of the month.

This translation from the UH, the original report can be seen here https://www.ultimahora.es/noticias/p...n-trafico.html:-

Quote:
The DGT is considering extending restrictions to the entire Formentor road this summer

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) studies the feasibility of closing the Formentor road from Port de Pollença this summer, instead of from the beach. It will do so provided that the deadlines allow it and an optimal solution is found to control the access of authorized persons (users with reduced mobility, residents and workers in the restricted area).

If there are no last-minute surprises, the ban on driving in private motor vehicles along the Formentor road will apply from June 15 to September 15 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., as happened in 2019.

Same schedule

Sources of the City Council of Pollença explain that in the dialogue table in which there are all the administrations involved (Government, Government, Consell and Town Hall) the bases are laid to end the massification of vehicles on the road without exit of the lighthouse of Formentor . It raised the possibility of extending the closing schedule. However, the City Council opposes this option if the central government does not previously agree to its request to close traffic in Port de Pollença instead of on the beach. This request is under study.

Both the City Council of Pollença and the Consell have expressly requested the DGT to study the feasibility of extending the restrictions to the Port of Pollença. They want to avoid repeating the chaotic scenes lived in the section of the road that runs between the Moll and the beach where traffic jams have worsened since the passage of private motor vehicles began to be restricted in the summer of 2018. situation is especially critical in the viewpoint of the Colomer .

The DGT confirms that it is about to publish in the BOE the agreement that “special traffic regulation measures are established during the year 2020, with a content with respect to Formentor practically equal to 2019”. However, he points out that "without prejudice to work very intensely in improving the measure as much as possible before the start date of application of the same", a nuance that accommodates the request still unresolved of the City Council from Pollença and the Consell de Mallorca.

The Consell, pending the publication of the DGT agreement in the BOE, avoids formally ruling on the matter while the City Council insists on defending the need to apply restrictions from the Port and regrets that it has not yet received a formal response from the DGT.

It should be remembered that although in 2018 the Consell monitored the reduction of vehicle traffic, there are no reliable data from the 2019 campaign because the DGT radars arrived with the season almost over.

Well, the good news is that, on that road:

You can ride your bike at any time of the day;

You can drive your car before 10:00 am and after 07:00 pm.

For those who haven't read the bulletin, this is pretty radical stuff! Only allowing those in AI hotels to have six drinks is almost Big Brother! As always its the minority that have ruined it for everyone else.

The Withdrawal Agreement which sets out how the UK leaves the EU has now passed into UK law, which, once the European Parliament has ratified it this week, means that the UK is leaving the EU with a deal on 31 January.

This is very positive news for UK nationals who are resident in Spain, as the Withdrawal Agreement contains some really important protections for your rights:
  • You will be able to continue to live and work in Spain
  • UK state pensioners will continue to have lifelong healthcare as long as they remain living in Spain. This also applies to residents who claim a UK state pension in the future
  • Your UK state pension will continue to be uprated
  • You will be able to exchange your driving licence until the end of 2020 without taking a driving test and your Spanish licence will be accepted in the UK when you visit
  • Those rights will be protected for as long as you live in Spain, provided you are legally resident here by the end of 2020.

The Withdrawal Agreement also provides an Transition Period (from 31 January until 31 December) during which time nothing will change for UK Nationals in Spain.

Lloyd Milen said: “... Alongside those rights, you have obligations – the main one being to make sure you are registered with a green residency certificate. ... For further information visit the Living in Spain Guide on gov.uk”.

To put your questions to HMA Hugh Elliott and Regional Consular Policy Adviser Lorna Geddie join our Facebook Live Q&A on Friday 31 January at midday (CET) on [see link on MDB website]

Information for UK nationals can be found at [see link on MDB website]

On Saturday, the Spanish business newspaper Cinco Días reported that the Hotel Formentor had been sold to an investment fund, Emin Capital, and would operate as a Four Seasons establishment, ...

Grupo Barceló, which has owned the hotel since 2006 and operates it under the group's Royal Hideaway luxury brand, has denied that the hotel has been sold. ...

Pollensa's mayor, Tomeu Cifre, says that any sale would be "very significant" for Pollensa but believes that no sale has yet been agreed. ... the company informed him that it was still analysing offers and intends to reopen this year as a Barceló hotel.

... The hotel has 127 rooms and has 250 authorised places. The idea has been for this number to be increased to 350, but a court order suspended a town hall planning regulation that would permit this.

It is good to know that even if it seems the world is going to 'hell in a handcart' the MDB still has room for the truly important stories!

Surprised Pollensafan didn't pluck up some courage and make a pun about this story! He obviously chickened out!
