Default Flying Boats

Is there a Bush fire somewhere nearby? The Flying boats have been flying over all day - scooping water up in the bay then flying off towards Cala San Vicente/ Soller. It is very windy today so landing/taking off must be tricky.

There are a few fires across the island and 2 extra planes have been brought over from the mainland, looks like the Formentor one is now under control .

We noticed that two planes were single engine float planes which I have not seen here before. The water is scooped up and released from the floats themselves.

Can you imagine how difficult it must be to fly these planes?

Landing on water, getting extra drag and weight, taking off and instantly losing that weight when it is dropped.

Very skilful flying

Some fantastic photographs of a Canadair fire fighting seaplane involved in extinguishing the forest fire in Formentor on Tuesday.

The photographs were taken in the Bay of Pollensa/Alcudia by British tourist Matthew Pike.
see MDB website (link above) for pictures
