Default Animal Welfare

Hello, I'm just new to this and frequently travel to Porto Pollensa. Could anyone tell me if there is any local animal welfare places around in town as recently found cat on promenade that appeared to maybe abandoned. I know there is lots about in area but this one did stand out, just wondered if someone could maybe have a look for me as back home now in UK.

Madam "S". I'm reporting myself for duplicating a post. Sorry !
I've sentenced myself to 9 lashes of the cat and no pun intended.

The lady who runs Al Fresco and also Cristina Ayerra, the physiotherapist who runs a lovely salon on the front next to 39 degrees North shop, both do a lot to help stray cats. They both help feed them and when they have enough funds, they also arrange to get some of the stray cats spayed.
The neutering of stray animals used to be something that the local Council did. In some areas, you can still see some of the old signs about the programme to neuter stray animals but sadly, the Council no longer does this. In our view it is certainly worthwhile supporting Cristina in her work. Small donations of money or packs of dry cat food will allow them to carry on their voluntary work in Puerto Pollensa.

Even though I have been there plenty of times, I am not sure of the actual name of the treatment salon. It is located on the Paseo Anglada Camarassa no.87B - which is just between the Corb Mari Restaurant delicatessen shop and the 39 degrees North fashion shop. Phone 971 86 49 38

Cristina speaks perfect English (if that helps)

Have never seen a lot of stray cats in PP Only the one tabby and white one who lives on the front near the Sea Bar

A place we went to in Rhodes it was awful A Churchyard in the main street would have to up to a hundred cats at night being fed and all the Restaurants were plagued by them They never seemed to solve the problem and the smells were not pleasant I love cats but not in the condition they were in and spaying is the only long term answer as once the visitors go home the feeding stops

Providing food source, only exasperates the problem. No one likes to see suffering, but remove the fuel that is feeding. IMO.

Stray cats carry all kinds of diseases which is why the authorities discourage feeding them, also food left in the streets encourages rats.

She has been there for 14 years at least and has fresh food and water every day. She is quite ok and has been to the vets on at least two occasions. Often food is left by tourists which leaves a mess and could attract vermin.
