Default News about the new bus station/stops.

This has been posted on FB by Lorraine Hannen who had a meeting with Andres Nevado Rodriguez yesterday :-

Quote:
I am so pleased that I arranged a meeting with Andres, as I now feel that there may be light at the end of the tunnel, albeit a long tunnel!
I took Juan Aguillar to translate, a friend of mine who is a retired headmaster and a friend of Andres. Although Andres did not speak any English, I got the impression that he was wanting to be as helpful as he possibly could.
He told us that the present bus station was temporary and the project to relocate to the back of the town was underway. He showed us the plan of the new bus station location on his computer. It is to be moved to the piece of land between the Colonya Bank and the Formentor by pass. Buses will travel from the sea plane roundabout along the by pass as far as the football ground, and would not be entering the centre of town.
At the moment discussions are going on between Local Government, Palma and the Transport Company. Budgets and contracts to carry out the relocation have to be sorted out.
I asked when would the move take place. Andres suggested September or October.
We went on to discuss the present problems, i.e. the noise and fumes from parked buses. Andres said that the Police are fining the Transport Company if the driver does not turn his engine off, and there had already been a couple of fines. I will monitor this over the next couple of days to see if they do in fact turn off their engines.
I hope you find the above information is helpful.

PP is not the only place to have problems relocating bus stations/termini....

I make no further comment under fear of slapped wrists from Sparky, except to say that if Thwaites Blackburn brewery wasn't closing, the planners couldn't have organised a decent drinking session in it

It seems local government is the same which ever country you are in.

I have just had a chat with Lorraine Hannen and she has confirmed that the new station will be located on the piece of land between the Colonya Bank block and the by-pass as seen here http://www.forum.puertopollensa.com/...-bus-stop.html. So no parking spaces will be lost in the car park behind the medical centre .

Got to be a great idea. Less buses on the front.
Have they recruited a new town "councillor" with common sense?!

Andres Nevado Rodriguez is the delegate for the Port but he is in the minority on the council as a UMP member, i have exchanged a few messages with him and i think he really is trying very hard to make things better .

We are here this week staying near the temporary bus stop and the drivers are definitely NOT turning their engines off. It is very annoying - who, if anyone, can we complain to?

Sorry tangofan can't help with who to complain to - but can confirm we saw exactly the same thing when we were out too. I'm surprised the bars opposite haven't complained as it makes them (to me at least) less appealing places to sit.

There's a page on the tib website where you can lodge a complaint -

The police have been told to issue fines to drivers for not turning off the engines, perhaps you could call into the police station.

Thanks Sparky I will do that. This is actually very annoying as it is peaceful where we are apart from the relentless engine noise. Of course I assume the fumes produced are not a good thing either. I understand it is only temporary but I feel very sorry for the residents who live near here.

A new bus stop has appeared on Calle Falco (the bypass) which would possibly indicate another change of route or just an additional stop. Very handy for us may I say!
