Default New rules for inter-urban bus routes

Water is now barred on Majorca's inter-urban buses » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

Quote:

The Majorca Transport Consortium, a part of the Council of Majorca, has introduced new rules for bus passengers travelling on inter-urban routes. As from this week, therefore, still water in a screw-cap bottle is not allowed on buses. Nor is fizzy water or indeed any drink.

...Passengers are not permitted to take any explosive material on to a bus (which sounds pretty reasonable) and will not be able to get on a bus if they dressed in swimwear or without tops. They will also be barred if they are drunk or under the influence of drugs.

The new rules also require passengers to be respectful of others. For example, any device that emits sounds without the use of headphones is banned, while passengers are required to not disturb others or "offend decorum".

As for standing on buses, this will only be possible if the bus meets conditions to allow this. If it does, passengers must stay still and not start walking around. Then there is heating and opening/closing windows. Majority opinion will determine whether heating is put up or down or whether windows are open or closed. If there's no clear majority, then the driver will decide.

...

Bikes, the fold-down variety, can be taken on as luggage; otherwise they will have to be placed in the luggage hold or on an external rack. ...

These rules have been adopted because until now different bus operators have applied their own regulations. There is now to be a harmonised set of rules for all operators. ...

Many thanks for this. Is there a definition of 'inter-urban' routes...in other words does this apply to some routes and not others, despite the attempt to harmonise the approach?

Please, anyone who wishes to drink some water on a bus at 40 degs centigrade this summer, do not come to Majorca. And definitely NO babies and nursing mothers - unruly lot. In fact if you are thirsty at all, please stay away - try Portugal instead. Oh, and don't forget to bring your best suit to wear on the bus.

Is it April 1st, or what??

What a bunch of ........ (well, I can't say that on the Forum, but you know what I mean).

I can see the sense in dressing properly and not being drunk and not bringing explosives on to the bus, and wearing headphones - but a Water Ban Not sure about keeping perfectly still while standing either

Denying a person water is surely an infringement of the Human Rights we are constantly quoted.

Maybe they sell there own on board ...

Or it's just lazy reporting from the MDB?

Can't see a press release on the tib website.

I shouldn't panic, there is no way they can stop you drinking water, and they didn't when we travelled last week, the rest is understandable though

In a previous MDB article about the draft regulations they talked about all water but "sin gas" being banned.

Hopefully the new regulations will be on their website soon and clarify things.

The regional government has presented a draft for this new regulation which will also prohibit eating and drinking on buses with the exception of water - and then only water "sin gas"; so sparkling water will also be on the banned list.

The German Mallorca Magazin is quoting an article in the Ultima Hora, whereby it won't be allowed to consume any carbonated drinks during the bus journey. Only still water in a screw-cap bottle can be consumed.

Just an example of how things get lost in translation, a headline in todays UH reads :-
Quote:
Gales destroza a Rusia y logra una clasificación histórica
, the Google translation reads
Quote:
Russia destroys Wales and achieves a historical classification
For those that don't know Wales won 3-0 .

Maybe the water ban is to alleviate the antisocial disposable of empty plastic bottles within the bus.
When the bus slows the empties roll to the front and roll in the reverse direction when the bus accelerates.
This is an EU wide problem.(Hence the terminology 'harmonise'?)
It's a regular occurrence when using the X43 into Manchester from the sticks of East Lancashire.
I suppose you could be public spirited and pick up the empties, but where would you put them.
