Road works

Work on planting trees around the Port has already been reported on the forum but they have also been digging trenches and laying pipes in a few of the streets. Road works have now started in C/Vicenc Buades, the old pot hole ridden surface is finally being replaced. They are making a lot of noise and mess  but i am sure it will be worth it in the end :D.

varsp 03-03-2014 13:41

Hopefully, all planned road works will be completed by the summer season ?

Sparky 05-03-2014 21:13

Well they have almost finished in C/Vicenc Buades and have aleady ripped up the surface in C/Roger de Flor, it's causing chaos for parking and the bars/restaurants have lost trade but they are moving very quickly. Here's a few photos :-

smg 05-03-2014 23:35

Yes it cuts down on traffic noise mate, the railing in the last pic isn't finished unfortunately, rain stopped play on Friday and the painter is on holiday for a week but the others look really good :).

Smg this work has been long overdue, we didn't have potholes.....more like craters .

Grandad 09-03-2014 12:29

Thanks for picture sparky, my flat is oposite school C/vincents boules so it looks great, tree's trimmed and a new road.. Out there in three weeks time can't wait..so just need the sun if you can organise for me.

Sparky 09-03-2014 12:49

Grandad you will notice a big difference, the new surface has reduced noise levels dramatically, every morning a huge lorry thunders down the road and it was so bad it made our windows used to rattle...now we don't hear it at all :D.
As for the sun...i will do my best ;).

varsp 09-03-2014 17:54

Hope the tarmac doesn't melt in the hot sun, as it did one year in Leeds !

Indeed, must be a British thing like the "wrong" kind of rain, leaves on the track and hosepipe bans after a couple of weeks of sun! (To mention but a few).

varsp 10-03-2014 09:21

Wonder how many days of sunshine we will have, in the U.K before we get slapped with a hose pipe ban this year ?

fil6699 10-03-2014 10:25

Should I cancel the car hire and get a bike?? Discuss:)

Sparky 10-03-2014 11:54

Well, it would appear that they laid the new surface over the manhole covers, so this morning they are busy digging them out.........only in Mallorca :rolleyes:.

sws97sdg 10-03-2014 11:56

lol, hopefully they will raise them as well or that will be fun on a bike

varsp 10-03-2014 14:59

When staying near the public swimming pool one year, we heard the clatter of manhole covers constantly, they shouldn't bother digging them out, keep them covered up !!!!!!!!

varsp 25-03-2014 18:36

How is the road re-surfacing coming along, is it all completed now ?

Sparky 25-03-2014 18:40

Yes all finished in the center of the Port :)

varsp 26-03-2014 08:32

Are they continuing outside of the centre, along the road towards Alcudia ?

Sparky 26-03-2014 09:50

I don't think so Varsp :).

lollipop 26-03-2014 17:07

They are due to be starting in Gotmar possibly on the Calle Voltor, which is in a terrible state.

Sparky 26-03-2014 17:24

Thank goodness for that Lollipop :), some of the roads down there are downright dangerous .

lollipop 27-03-2014 18:29

I have noticed today that they have lowered a lot of the kerbs around the areas of the new tarmac, with the bobbled slabs. Fingers crossed Sparky, no signs as yet though.

Gommar Goffer 28-03-2014 11:51

I think the bobbled slabs are an EU regulation to help visually impaired/blind people find appropriate places to cross roads:)

lollipop 28-03-2014 19:34

I have heard today that although they called a meeting and asked if residents wanted the work to start now or in October, in fact they had already decided and yes you've guessed they won't start until October.

Sparky 28-03-2014 19:44

Why am i not surprised?.

varsp 28-03-2014 20:05

Now they've settled on the month, all they have to do now is decide which year !

Let's hope they still have some money left by then!

Sparky 29-03-2014 10:25

I just read this in the UH El Consell invertirá 16 millones en 24 actuaciones de mejoras viarias » Part Forana » Noticias » Ultima Hora Mallorca, translated by Google.

Quote:

The Consell invest 16 million in 24 performances of road improvements

The Consell undertake this year musical landscape integration of the roads in the Serra de Tramuntana, with building walls pedra en sec , replacing the metal safety barriers for other wood, conditioning the lookout Albercutx or sa Creueta in Formentor, and the creation of a road 310 meters to improve the safety of walkers on a stretch of camí Vell de Lluc, up to the Coll de sa Batalla.

Other works

It is a part of the more than 24 projects to improve the road network in Mallorca with an investment of 16 million euros, as reported yesterday the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Maria Salom, the Minister d'Urban Planning, Mauricio Rovira and director Carreteres, Rafel Gelabert.

Maria Salom said the total investment sum of 16 million euros which is also allocated to the landscape integration in the area of the Serra, pavement improvements. 5.8 million will also be allocated to the stabilization of the slopes of the road and a Estellencs Andratx, very affected by the fire last summer in the area.

Roundabouts

Among the provisions is photovoltaic Monnàber tunnel lighting, and building five new roundabouts on the road at its junction with Soller Son Reus, access to the village of Cala Blava, access to Manacor de la Vall, at the junction of Rieral in Port d'Andratx, and access to Son Bonet from the Pont d'Inca. Rovira explained that some of these works will start in June, but summer will stand in the busiest areas.

Sunshinedrive 01-04-2014 04:43

There are pavement works going on where the fair line offices are. These are not a problem as work doesn't start until most people are awake, however who's ever car alarm is going off at 5 am in the morning is going to Make a grumpy sunshinedrive today, oh well I'm up so I might as well go for a jog.

Sparky 03-04-2014 14:32

Going back to the road works in the Port, they have now changed priorities on Vicenc Buades. I assume this is a traffic calming measure as they have put some speed humps along the stretch going past the school/ swimming pool/ health center, parking bays are now "nose" into the pavement and you have to stop at the junction with C/Tramuntana (by La Roda). This is working well as it really is slowing the traffic down :D, before it was like a speed track .

Nick 03-04-2014 22:23

Good idea. That's a wide bit of road so will give a lot more parking with "nose in" parking.

lollipop 04-04-2014 08:33

Ah, but while we were in La Roda yesterday lunchtime we saw two cars go racing across and the car turning from the Tramuntana had to stop rather quickly. I guess they'll get used to it.

Sparky 04-04-2014 09:36

Yes i was there last night and it was the same, i think there could be a few crunches until the locals get used to it. This is where the powers that be here fall down, in the UK when a road layout or priorities change there is always a sign to warn drivers but here they just do it .

lollipop 04-04-2014 12:03

We said exactly that Sparky.
