Our heating in the villa is oil and costs a fortune. It would be cheaper to go to Barbados for a month! lol Seriously it is an issue and yes costs in UK are increasing here in UK too.
Once a place gets so cold and damp it is a long way back to being comfortable and shutting up certainly doesn't help. To open a place on a warm sunny day and allow the air to flow makes such a difference.
At least the winters are nice and short in Mallorca unlike here where grey skies seem to greet most days for months! A blue sky even when cold does have a positive result on facing the day.

We've had several February visits during half-term when our boys were still at school and on ski-trips. Yes, it does take a bit to heat an apartment - we bought an electric oil filled radiator but have to be careful not to blow the electric fuses! But we've always enjoyed it.
Even if cold, the light is different and brighter and we've usually managed a few lunches on our terrace - even if wrapped up but often in shorts too.
Give it a try!

Pollensa, You nailed it in one there. " It's the light ". less than 2 hours away, yet it may as well be half a world away where the light difference is concerned. Even when the sun shines at home in the winter, there is no comparison.

The season looks well and truly over looking at the See Mallorca webcam. There's hardly anyone about and hard to believe that 2 weeks ago today we were sitting outside Illa D'Or having a drink and everywhere was still fairly busy (for the time of year anyhow) Looking forward to our next visit now

The season might be well and truly over, but nobody has told " Mr Sun ". What a glorious morning today.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...... PP is just hibernating and taking a well deserved rest after a hot and busy season. The natural beauty of the Winter, in my opinion, cannot be beaten. Have a good rest PP, before you know it it'll be time to wake from hibernation and start the cycle all over again.

Completely agree with you Whaley, seeing the beach without beds and brollies and having a chat with the locals who have not got to rush off to work. It's like the whole Port breathes a sigh of relief and just chills out, I love this time of year .

Just looked at the webcam and there are people on the beach and even in the sea so it's not over for everybody

It's the light isnt it, a photographers dream to have great light and not many people in the shot.
We have visited many times in february as its my birthday and only had one bad week which was this year. ( it snowed and rained hard)
Some older pictures all from around the 27th February various years:

All these pictures are real and straight from the camera, the colours are as they are as I dont do any photoshop tweaking at all,( I am no good at that) just resized for web.
This time next week my suitcase will be packed for a sneaky week away , whoo hoo!!!!
Visit in the winter at least once as you might like it.

Look, I'm getting annoyed now. Just checked again and folk are in the sea now. We need a law passed that when we all get home no one is allowed on the beach as it causes us to get depressed. Sparky, you need to stand guard and stop em from going on there.

Today has been amazing weather wise, can't believe how many people were on the beach when we drove along earlier - we've been so lucky this week. Mind you, to bring it back to the 'End of Season' topic, we've found it fascinating how so much has closed down over the last day or so. Walking along the pine walk this evening, it's amazing how many shops and restaurants have boarded up for the winter now. We had lunch in one cafe, and spent the whole time watching the chap at the restaurant next door, where we had eaten on Wednesday evening, unscrewing all of the umbrella stands. By the time we walked past again this evening, the whole of the front of that restaurant was completely deserted.

This happens every year and it's mainly because staff contracts finish at the end of October, to keep the staff on for any extra days would mean they would have to pay them for the full month (employment laws here are very different to the UK ). Also it could also be a clause in the lease that if they remain open they have to pay another months rent which they probably would not have enough trade to cover.
