Default Opticians

Mrs Clinkham is in the market for some new glasses. Always on the look out for an excuse to have an extra visit to PP, the thought cropped up - how about being a glasses tourist? The dental implants opportunities have recently been explained, but there dosen't seem to be anything on the forum for local - or Palma even - opticians.
Anyone any info, particularly re costs Mallorca v. UK. Current estimates here in UK are a little OTT.

Much cheaper here to have your eyes tested, get the prescription and then with all your details buy specs online, you are not obliged to buy from the opticians just because you have your eyes tested there.

Once you have your prescription you would probably also be able to take it to any optician in Mallorca if that was your wish.

Thanks Whaley. Ordering varifocals dosen't suit online purchasing - or it didn't when I last tried it! That said Specsavers took 8 or 9 visits to get my last pair sorted. I think the customer service operative should have gone to Specsavers

Hi Clinkham, there is an optician (maybe 2) in C/ Juan XX111 and a Specsavers in Santa Ponsa the address is Avda. Rei Jaume I 117.

The opticians here are very expensive apart from Specsavers who have similar prices and offers to the UK. Currently they are offering a pair of standard varifocals at 89€ for the lenses.

I agree with Lollipop, whenever we have compared the price of glasses in PP they have always been expensive compared to back home

No, no, no, no ,no, no. Under no circumstances buy your glasses here. I made this mistake a couple of yours ago and went to the Opticians on the main road going into the Port. I think they are called Florida. I was charged 400 euros for a pretty basic non-branded frame with glass single Vision lenses and a reactive coating. The sort of thing I could have quite happily got for 150 pounds or less in the UK.
The opening of Specsavers in Santa Ponsa has added a touch of reality to the situation but unless you choose from the limited special offers they are still far more expensive than the UK. A friend of mine collected her new glasses yesterday - varifocals in a non-branded frame with reactalight coating - 300 euros.

I have just visited Specsavers,a very good experience too. Elite Varifocals, reactalight lenses in mid price frame, Hubby has similar lenses and slightly more expensive frame and the two pairs have cost just under 500 euro's about £50 more than the same in the uk as checked by the UK website. For those of us living here its worth the trip.

If you know the strength then you can buy in either optician on the main road JuanXX111, or the chemists. There is also a couple of stalls on the market .

If you just want a cheap disposable pair then the Chinese shops sell them for about 2€.
