Thumbs up PAC centre in Pollensa

We had reason to visit the PAC health centre in Pollensa town on Sunday and are pleased to report it was a very positive experience. We just had to show our european health cards and the treatment was all free, excellent service with no waiting, we were in and out in 10 minutes and an English speaking doctor. The pharmacia was also open on Sunday.

Whaley i am sorry to hear that you needed to use it and hope all is ok now .

For information the PAC is on Calle Bisbe Desbach, behind the playpark by the main bus stop .

We have used it no less than three times during our various holidays - what a bunch of hypochondriacs we must be - can also report that it is quick, very efficient and free (except on the first occasion, a few years ago now, when we forgot our EHIC card and had to pay a fee - 50E, I seem to recall...) Wish we had similar walk-in centres in the UK!

There are a few in the UK although not many yet. It's a good idea

Unfortunately the NHS walk in centres in our area are closing not opening

Which is a shame as they were a great alternative to 5 hours at A & E !!!!

Excellent info. there. Thanks for reporting it.

Question though......is the "PAC" any better than the medical centre in PP near the swimming pool then ??

Yes it is Nick, for emergencies. The medical centre in PP is more of a doctors surgery and you have to make an appointment, whereas the PAC is like an A&E. That said they both provide a very good service.

All good advice here. We have found the PAC in Pollensa to be efficient and professional on production of our EHIC.

I think the clue is in the name!! "European" Health Insurance Card! which provides health care to citizens of the EU (holders) as though they are a citizens of that country.

When asked that exact question in a recent interview David Cameron said answered " If we remain in the EU the EHIC system will remain, if we leave, well you'll have to ask the Brexit side the same question" I'm not making any point here just saying what he said

As stated on the gov website the EHIC Card is available to members of the EU and EEA. https://www.gov.uk/eu-eea

Countries in the EU and EEA
The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of 28 countries. It operates an internal (or single) market which allows free movement of goods, capital, services and people between member states.

EU countries
The EU countries are:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK.

The European Economic Area (EEA)
The EEA includes EU countries and also Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. It allows them to be part of the EU’s single market.

Switzerland is neither an EU nor EEA member but is part of the single market - this means Swiss nationals have the same rights to live and work in the UK as other EEA nationals.

On 23rd June we are voting on whether to REMAIN IN or LEAVE the EU.

If we leave we don't know if we can still have the EHIC and receive equivalent medical services in countries such as Spain (who will still be in the EU).

Please no political comments on the forum. I'm just responding re the EHIC Card!
