Exclamation Possible closure of pharmacies.

I thought i should pre warn you all of an article i have read in the local press.
There is a possibility that Balearic pharmacies will close on Friday July 29th, this is because the regional government has not paid bills for May and June which amount to €36million. I will keep a close eye on any developments and will report accordingly but to be on the safe side please be certain to bring any essential medication with you from the UK as it might not be possible to obtain it here. The article does say that duty and emergency pharmacies will remain open but if they don't have the money, they will run short of supplies.

Oh, thanks for that Sparky. That's good info to have in advance. I'll make sure we take emergency supplies just in case.

This could be quiet serious Sparky, am I right in saying that you can only buy medicines at pharmacies not supermarkets like you can in the UK? probably best to stock up and take anything you may need with you as you say Sparky

Yes that is correct SWS, only pharmacies are allowed to sell even the most basic pain killers.
Hopefully it won't happen but it's best to be prepared.

Do you mean closing for just a day - or for the foreseeable future??

Kate, i read about it in yesterdays issue of the Mallorca Euro Weekly, it just says they could close on Friday July 29th, it doesn't say "for the day". As i understand it they would remain closed, the main point seems to be that because they have not been paid they are unable to replenish stocks, consequently they won't have the drugs to dispense.
Like i said lets hope it doesn't happen, the repercussions are too scary to think about.
