Travel insurance for health
I know according to Martin Lewis I should already have this but am having problems due to my medical history. I know he has suggested extended EHIC which seems ok, and the reports on Inca hospital are good. What have others found good? Most of the premiums are awful even with specialist groups even if they cover me which is rare. Thanks

Medical Insurance
Hi Pips
Imagine my surprise to move to the Forum website, having just finished a telephone conversation with the medical screening organization, because I also have a pre-existing conditon. They are Dublin based, but I have used them before, and it seems straightforward. If you wish to PM me I can give you details. Good luck! Regards John |
Have been following a post on Fbook about unfavourable treatment given at Muro Hospital. We are wondering how we could ensure that we could be treated at Inca Hospital if an emergency situation was to arise. For example, if an ambulance was called, presume it would automatically take us to Muro, as it is nearer than Inca! Normally we rely on EHIC card, though we do have medical cover within our Travel Insurance with Liverpool Victoria. Any advice here would be welcome!!

What is the situation regarding Ambulances? Are they private? What happens if you dial 112 in an emergency? |
Yes Muro Hospital is private.
I think it depends on which NHS hospital is "on take" on the day, you can't choose where they take you. |
I have no real experience myself but when I brought my daughters friend on holiday several years ago - her Mum and Dad ( GP and Surgeon in UK ) only specified 1 rule and that was that if anything happened to their daughter whilst away I made sure she went to a Spanish NHS hospital and not a private hospital
And the rule certainly wasn't for political reasons as one of them works in our local BUPA hospital They felt very strongly about the high merit of the Spanish NHS hospitals and were very scathing about the private hospitals |
I also have no experience to relate as yet thankfully! My husband and I bring our EHIC cards and we have 90 days travel cover through our bank account in UK paying a small extra premium for a pre existing condition. However my Mum who will visit us again this year is 91 only has 30 days cover on her annual travel policy. She keeps insurance co. Informed about her medication and any changes. In the past Mum has stayed here for almost 2 months uneventfully and not realising that her travel insurance would not cover her!!! As mum has an open ended stay again this year and arrives tomorrow she had called insurance company to get her cover extended but they could not help as she could not give them a return date. So she says she will come anyway as she loves PP! I hope we can sort out something for her while she is here.

If you ring 112 you will get a `stateŽambulance that will take you to the nearest Spanish NHS hospital. Be sure to have your EHIC card and Passport with you to prove your entitlement to care.
If you have private medical insurance there is usually an emergency number on the card or policy. |
