This year I have received a bill for the rates and a separate bill for refuse collection, I do not recall having two bills in the past is this new?

Not quite the same but I got a "council tax" bill for this year that was double last years which I paid then, so think I've been charged twice?

Is there some kind of mix-up or something?

Maybe others can shed some light?

PP76 - I have just had my rates taken and they are about 10% up on last year I think - there has always been a seperate bill for refuse for me.

I cant remember the exact wording on our bill, but we queried it with someone who did understand it, and found out that you now pay - to the bank - a charge for the police to check you out! All to do with money laundering etc. Big Brother certainly watching you now!

Thanks for the replies, It is unusual for us to receive the bill in the post, perhaps I have just not picked up on this before.

We've always had 2 separate bills but they are taken as Direct Debits from our bank account. We haven't ever received bills in the post. I've just checked our account & 2 amounts were taken on 21/10. The one for ARBITRIS (which I think is rubbish/sewage etc.) has gone down slightly & the other one has gone up. The overall total is slightly down on last year - no idea why.

We laways pay two amountsa and these are taken direct from our bank. We then get a notification slip from the bank which is our receipt. Our car tax is paid in the same way.
