Smile Books in Trees!!!!

Opposite Hardley's American Diner is a tree.
There is a hole in the tree.
In the hole is a book!

At the presentation of the cheque to the cancer charity this evening, two people took a photo of the book.

I asked one of the people what is was all about, and was told that it was a Catalan custom. You take the book, leave another and then repeat the process.

It's a tree library!!!

It seemed a great idea, but am I being taken for a ride? Does anyone else know anything about this?
I'm going to ask a Spanish friend when I see him, but does anyone on the forum know anything about this?

Cheers!
Frito

Could be something to do with Saint Georges Day? This is the custom that inspired World Book Day.

''Dia de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day). April 23rd
Sant Jordi is the patron saint of Catalonia and the day is celebrated throughout Catalonia. The legend has it that when the famous dragon was slain, a rose grew from its blood. To celebrate the victory over the dragon Catalan men give the woman they love a red rose on Sant Jordi's day. In return women buy their loved ones a book. Over recent years the Catalan custom of buying books on Sant Jordi's day has become fairly international and in many countries of the world April 23rd is known as "International Book Day".

I am not so sure, you could be barking up the wrong tree.
