Default Advice on Schools in Puerto Pollensa for my 5 year old.

Hi there, as many other people I love Puerto Pollensa as do my family and we are looking to move over within the next year (that includes myself, my wife and two daughters - 1 and half and 5). I have been coming to PP for 25 years and been at different times of the year not just the summer so feel I have more idea what to expect. My plan is for the first year to rent my property in the UK and rent in PP (although it appears properties are pretty expensive), to make sure it is right for all of us first.

I have a few questions and if anyone has any good knowledge/experience I would really appreciate your guidance:

What is the local school in PP (spanish speaking) and can you offer any advice on how I would enrol my 5 year old - and indeed if they can start at any point if there would be a waiting time. Was thinking of trying to get an email address to ask questions.

What are the costs involved with education for expat families.

Has anyone any advice on the best way to rent a property for a year - most companies seem to mainly do holiday rentals.

I run a small internet business so will be able to continue this remotely from PP with no great change to the way I do things so will not need employment in PP but my wife will probably want a part time job - do you think this would be achievable?

Can someone give me an idea of quality and cost of broadband PM in PP.

Is there a good nursery in PP for our 1 and half year old and does anyone have contact email or any idea of costs?

I hope you guys have got the end of this long post and apologies for so many questions!!!!!! Any help is welcome!

Hi welcome to the forum and eventually PP.
If you read the other threads in this section you'll get a feel for the issues. There have already been several discussions on schools and language. Most ex-pats learn Spanish (Castillian) & get by but the schools teach in Mallorcan (Catalan). I can't advise you on the schools as i don't have children but i am sure someone on here will be able to help with specific questions. We have lived here now for just over 2 years and like you did not want to sell up in the UK until we had given ourselves a full year here to make sure it was the right decision for us. Obviously it was and we have now sold our house over there, our situation is very different to yours in as much as we are retired but we have no regrets and are living our dream.
There are a lot of long term rentals available at the moment but i am afraid employment is much harder to come by but i wish you luck and who knows maybe we will be neighbours one day.

Thanks for your reply. As I have my own online business that I can take to PP this hopefully should make our transition easier! Do you know the name of the local primary school in PP as will contact them directly for registration info.

Best regards

I think it is called " Centro de Educacion Infantil y Primaria Miguel Capllonch " and it is C/ Vicenc Buades.

No expert but I would suggest you invest some time, say a week, in visiting PP with your wife, no kids in tow, and doing some research "on the ground" so to speak by visiting and personally seeing what there is on offer.

While the internet is a great tool it's no substitute for a visit I can assure you.

Your children's education is vitally important. You wouldn't buy a house or even a car over the internet without first viewing surely, would you??

I know this sounds quite blunt and direct but I think it has to be the best way.

Good luck..
