Water company gone broke??
 
Has anyone heard anything at all about the water company servicing PP going broke??

We have just received a telephone call from the person looking after our villa to say this has happened within the last week. It seems that letters are going out shortly from the water company requesting donations to keep them going!!

If money isn't forthcoming then many will be cut off. This of course will be awful especially in the main holiday season. We have an underground water supply which will see us through and we can then have water delivered by hub but what about all the apartment blocks if this info is correct?

I did look at my diary just to ensure it wasn't April 1st! We have been assured that this information is correct.

Whatever next? Please someone tell me this is a joke!

Surely that's a scam!??:eek:

We have an apt but I thought water came direct from the 'council' i.e. mains supply but we get water delivered by lorry in the summer when it gets very salty & brackish.

I hope you are right, Zelda but our housekeeper said that the bank is aware and that the info is correct.
Seems very strange - also why do we always seem to hear of these things at times when we can't check??

Pardon the pun but if it's true then i would imagine any money "donated" will go straight down the drain. They've got to be joking!

Yes - it has got to be a joke or try on --------hasn't it??
If it had come from anyone else I would have just had a good laugh but my housekeeper always seems to know what is what. That is the only reason I panicked!

Anyway - we will find out for sure tomorrow. Just seems very strange.

Just an update on my heart stop of last night - having phoned our bank today it seems that they were aware of this story. It seems that it was a breakdown in translation and communication and the water company are of course not going broke!!
The wording when translated did apparently say something along those lines but what they actually meant was that -------they were increasing the water rates as their profits were low! Still not a good way to put it but honest anyway! lol

From what I can gather it seems that the water supply situation is similar to our UK electricity/gas insofar as you can change supplier. We are in the process of changing to an Alcudia supplier - this is a joint application as it refers to both the mains supply and the tank 'top up'. There are two advantages for us .... apparently the water is purer (less salt) and in return for transfering our account the new company are going to fit water meters - at the moment for zero cost. In an apartment block this can be a distinct advantage for those who use their place less frequently. We heard of firms charging around 300 euro to fit the meter but when checking at Leroy Merlin we saw the same meter for 50 euro and a local plumber said a max of one hour to fit for around 30 euro.

Its always a discussion point for apartment blocks who have their water supplied by well whether going on to mains is worth the huge charge to get connected iin the first place, then knowing you are completely in their power to charge what they like down the years. However, the mention of water meters is certainly something to think about now.

I have just spoken to a friend in PP who has had his water cut off. The company he used was called Catalina Provenzel (? maybe a wrong spelling) It seems they may have gone broke! It is costing him 1000 euros to re-connect to the council and have new meters put in.

This is the information we had last week although as I said I think the high cost is the result of going to the 'one place' to get all the work done i.e. water supply, meter provision and the fitting. I don't think you have to go to the water supplier for the meter and/or fitting and if you shop around you can get these installed much cheaper than the water company are quoting for the whole package.

When you talk about the actual 'water' being different, surely this can only refer to the tanker topup. The actual water coming from the mains can't be any different (can it?). This is how it works with choosing gas & electricity supliers in the UK. The actual 'product' is the same, you are just paying for it differently.

I hadn't realised there were different options. In our apartment block we have always had meters (it made quite a difference when we stopped irrigating our tiny patch of garden) & we've always been told that the water comes from the 'town hall' (!!!) plus a few lorry/tanker loads in Summer when it gets too salty.

Out at sea now so cannot check till I get back in however I think you are correct insofar as different suppliers of same product but they charge different prices plus some insist on a meter and others don't. In addition the tanker top up comes from different sources however to counteract all of this our administrators have said that when we change to a new supplier this will make our water softener redundant as .... and I quote ..." your water will now be purer as it comes from a new supplier in Alcudia" - I like you can only imagine this relates to the top up however I don't have the ability to check at the moment.
