Default Safety Deposit Boxes

Does anyone know of any hotels or anywhere else where you can rent safety deposit boxes if not staying there?

Very interesting question in this day and age Bella. I don't know the answer but some rental properties do have small safes in them.
Maybe this is something owners who rent out could think about doing, these safes are not very expensive and are quite simple to fit, and the client can change the code to whatever they want for the duration of their stay.

Absolutely Sparky, and fully intend to do so, but at the moment I am trying to find a local hotel which has this facility which could be used for non residents for a small fee perhaps. Have checked already with The Galleon - who don't, and am waiting reply from Bahia Pollensa. Just wondering if anyone else who has stayed in local hotels has any information on this.

Result! Have just had an answer back from the Bahia Pollensa who will rent out Safety Boxes at 12 euros per week for normal size boxes and 15 euros per week for large size boxes.

Hi Bella, I have just read your post and well done on finding somewhere. I was going to suggest Tony de La Cruiz (apologies for spelling of name!) I know he arranged this for a friend a couple of years ago. It wasn't on a permanent basis but short term. So just a suggestion. Also perhaps the banks have appropriate facilities?
Good luck!

The problem is the banks may only supply them for account holders and even if they did rent them short term you would be limited to opening hours for access.
I really think owners will need to supply this very important facility to their clients in the future, as i said the safes are not very expensive and i am sure people will soon start to demand more security for their money and passports etc.

That was actually one of the first things we bought for our apartment. At the time they were very expensive in Mallorca so we got one from Argos and brought it out with us - in the hold - that was before they were charging for luggage. But nowadays the large DIYs Leroy Merlin etc. have them.

We originally just had an electronic one in the master bedroom but you cannot get spare keys cut (for when you forget the combination!) so our managing company installed another one that just has a key.

They can be bought locally in most of the ports hardware shops for about €30 or €40 i think but not sure. It would be money well spent in my opinion.

Ours is a real pain as it came with the house and is cemented into a cupboard. It has a key and combination which have to be used together. Great as long as the key isn't lost or the combination forgotten!!
Essential to have a safe though and probably expected.
Good idea Bella, taking one out with you. That was good luggage timing!

That was Pollensa, eleanor not me! We have been discussing the problems that could arise with various types of boxes. The press button combination ones are great, but if the door is closed with the old combination and clients have left - then there is a problem! Key ones are obviously the best answer, with the key sent to the clients before arrival I assume. Yet another problem to be thought about!

The one we had in the UK was the push button type, but there was a back-up key for emergencies.

Ours is the same. We have 2 backup keys - one I keep & our managing agent has the other in case a guest has problems.

The other safe with a key has one key left it in for when they arrive & the agent has the other. Am not sure why you would need to send it to them?
