Default N I E Number

We are in the process of changing our mortgage and getting a little confused with the paperwork and different numbers ie CIF DIF NIE etc !! We are wondering if the NIE is the number we are given on the stickers with barcodes. When we initially took the mortgage out we were in PP but we are changing to Halifax Spain and do all the paperwork this end

Any advice on these numbers would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in anticipation

Pansy

There's an explanation of the various numbers here NIE, DNI, NIF, CIF, Social Security : Spain Residencia: Spain Expat If you own property & are non-resident you will have an NIE. Our solicitor applied for ours for us & I have copies of a certificate saying what it is.

I haven't seen stickers with a Bar Code but maybe that's changed.

You should have some sort of document with your full name stating that it is a Numero de Identificacion de Extranjero. The number will have 9 characters e.g. A-1234567-X or simething similar.

Hi Pollensa

Thank you so much for the extremely helpful link, it explains everything we need to know and more. Its a bit confusing changing over the mortgage while in the UK instead of PP as we are not fluent in Spanish, but hopefully it will be very beneficial !

Kind Regards

Pansy
