Question Satellite TV

Hi, we are thinking of getting satellite TV in our apartment in PP. Does anyone know what is involved and roughly what it costs. When we stayed in the Hotel Uyal last year they had satelite that pulled in BBC1 and a couple of other English peaking stations.
We're not after any full Sky packages or the like because we only spend limited time there but would like a few English stations for the darker nights.

I would recommend going and having a chat with Miguel from Confort at the Xaloc Rounabout. He will explain how it all works and the price will be reasonable. You will see many recommendations on this site for Confort if you trawl through it.

We got ours last year and I honestly can't remember the price but it may have been around €500. The main expense is the large satellite dish you will need to receive UK TV. If your apartment block already has an appropriate dish then you can avoid this part of the charge. We got a freeview type box and that gives us BBC, ITV, CBBC, Ceebeebies and Sky news. It does not involve a contract.

If you are currently in the UK then you might want to phone Confort to discuss. The number is 00 34 971 866872.

I hope this is helpful.

Regards

Sharon

Another company to try if you want to get a couple of quotations is Telesat which is based in Pollensa. They are good at discussing what you may need.

The telephone number is:

Does anyone have any idea why BBC1 and ITV1 have suddenly disappeared from Freeview on my TV? Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

They've just disappeared from the listing page!

Sharon, (and Mariquita)
thanks for the help on the satellite issue. When you said "We got a freeview type box and that gives us BBC, ITV, CBBC, Ceebeebies and Sky news." did you buy a Spanish or a UK freeview box?

It is a Spanish Freeview box but Miguel will explain all. My recollection is within the total cost of approx €500 the box element was €120. There was a cheaper one at €100 but we took the slightly dearer option but I can't remember why.

Smile recently installed dish.

Hiya,

we had to have our own dish installed 2 weeks ago, all done by confort.
There is a poss alternative... which mite be cheaper for u .
If one of ur neighbours already had a dish ( a big one.1.3+) then u could ask them if u can link into thiers and pay the conversion costs.
We couldn't do that, so total cost was about 600euros, job done in a morning.
And we are well pleased !

Miriam
