Default Old School in the Square. What is to be of it?

Just wondering, as it is all blocked up now, what is to be of it?

Probably apartment blocks or something?

We noticed it was shut when we were there in May. Why did it close, have they built a new school?.

Smile The School In The Square

I was in the school on the square just before they moved it down the road to the new building near to the sports centre.

At that time the local council were talking about using it as a cultural centre where people could use the facilities for music, drama etc.

There was a bit of excitement amongst local groups who find rehearsal and practice space difficult.

BUT since then there has been little movement on the matter.
Let's hope that once the season is over, the council will make a move to provide this very useful facility.

Cheers!

Frito.

Frito,

You're right, the council would eventually like to redevelop the site as an auditorium but I'm afraid in the short term more pressng issues like the waer supply, drainage and other infrastructure projects habe priority. Think we just need to be patient and let them let out as a cultural centre but who knows in a few years this could be a fabulous new facility.

Ive heard from local gossip that there are plans to turn it into the new Policia Local office. But as it goes here you can never trust what you hear.

Default old school

As I understand it, the land on which the old school is standing was given to the council years ago on condition it be used for the public good (ie no private housing development, bars or restaurants etc). The council said they would be using it for council offices and police offices, as well as allowing local associations and clubs to use the facility. The local branch of the English Speaking Residents' Association were told they could use some part of it as a library (the association had a facility in Pollensa until recently).
However, nothing is written in stone, and there have been changes on the council since promises were made, plus the current council doesn't seem too keen on spending any money on Puerto Pollensa. They also seem to be burying the auditorium idea which was mooted at first.
It's a wait and see development I think!
