Default SKY TV reception

We have recently had Sky TV installed but have found that the signal is poor in the evenings, is this a common problem? Is there anything that can be done to rectify it??

We have had this problem in the past and were told nothing could be done as we already have a very large dish, however when we were out in May we had a very good picture at all times.
Back out a week today for 5 weeks, hopefully the picture will still be ok.

A number of my friends have the same reception problems as mentioned.
I don't seem to have the same problems. My Sky dish was installed by Reus in the Port. (I'm sorry to go-on about them again, but they have provided excellent service.)
The technician insisted that I have "the big dish", and my reception has been great. However, my "big dish" is on the highest point of the building, and is nowhere near any other dish or electrical installation.
I wonder if reception is different in different parts of the Port????
I'm in Llenaire. Does anyone in Llenaire have the same "normal" reception as me? What about other parts of the Port? It would be interesting to know.

Cheers!

About two months ago we had a problem when the high winds moved the dish. Once it was realligned it was fine.
Prior to that our digibox went on the blink, so we ordered a new one from Sky. They have one that is described as being suitable for the Med where the signal is weak, so we got that one.
Occasionally we have a poor signal but most of the time it is OK.

Frito,

We are in Llenaire, behind the Hotel Galleon and have the same problem in the winter with high winds, one call to Reus and they are out stright away and adjust the signal for only 24 Euro. We also bought a fridge from them and asked when can you deliver it, they replied, staight away and they followed us to our apartment. We would definately recommend them.

We had Sky installed in March. The guy explained to us that there was sometimes a problem with reception but gave us a whole host of channel numbers that provide BBC Regional channels which you can try as sometimes one is better than another. Can't remember the numbers but they are in the 900 range. Same applies to ITV i think.

PS We only needed a connection as Dish already existed and got quotes from Reus and Confort. The latter were significantly cheaper.

We had our (rather large) dish fitted by Milar and have never had any problems with reception. Just recently took a sky box over to upgrade and its fantastic! We're at the back of the port near the Boquer Valley.

Roy and Katie,

Did you order your sky box in the UK? I'm thinking of connecting to a neighbour's dish (with their permission) and I contacted the man who installed their dish. He quoted me a really high price saying something about the difficulty in obtaining a sky box but if I had my own it would be cheaper.

Can anyone give me an idea of a breakdown of the prices they've paid (dish, connection, box) from Comfort, Millar and Reus for example to get an idea of what price I can expect to pay?

Thanks in advance Q

Yes ,
We bought our sky box in the UK and brought it over. We paid £129 in September last year from digiboxshop.com. It was a Thompson DSI 4214 model.

Our dish was already there when we bought the house, so I can't help you there.

Since our last post we had a few days a couple of weeks ago when we had problems with receiving BBC1. Otherwise the reception has been good.

I have just been quoted EUR 800 for installing the Sky free channels. This seems very expensive. Can anyone else give me an indication of price so that I can decide if that is reasonable or not? Thanks,

Hi Sharon. Was this quote from the chap we emailed about? I think we paid 670 euros two years ago.

Hi Sandy.

Yes the quote was from the guy we exchanged emails about. Thanks for the info. The quote probably is reasonable enough given that two years have passed since yours was installed. I might try to get a few euros off!!!
