Default Long Term Rental Advise - with a view to buy next year

Hi all,

I've read through the forum and gleaned some great information about rentals in the area and wanted to see if anyone had any advise on renting and buying in the area that they could share?

We are currently in Port d'Alcudia through the middle of March and are considering renting again for 6 months starting in November with an eye to purchase something once we get a better feel for the area.

We are both very active and want to be part of a community (well as much as can be expected abroad) and wanted to get a sense for what winter life is like in PP or close by.

We are probably leaning towards being close to the Port in a low maintenance place as we travel quite a bit (40's and still working PT, though remotely for the most part)
How do people find the cost of living and adjustment coming from the the British Isles and what would all say is the most common issues that people face in both day to day life and the adjustment?

Appreciate any insight - we're seasoned travelers and love the area but trying to minimize as many potential issues as possible before we pull the trigger..
