Santander.....free ATM withdrawals?.

Although slightly different to money transfers we noticed in our last statement from Santander that there is now to be a charge for withdrawing money from a Santander ATM using a British Santander card! Seems slightly unfair but it may help other account holders to know.:

Is that for all accounts Stoxie do you know? On their website it still says this:

"If you have an adult current account and pay in at least £500 per month, you can get free cash machine withdrawals in Spain when you use any Santander cash machine.

We don't charge you for using a cash machine abroad but the cash machine operator may make a charge.

Always choose to take your cash in the local currency if you have the option.
If you choose sterling, it means that the retailer or bank will handle the conversion and may charge you a conversion fee or a foreign usage fee (or both)."

Just checked this out and it depends which type of card you have.

From May 2017 if you have a cash card for withdrawals then you will be charged 1.5% (minimum £1.99) plus 2.75% currency converter.

However, it will continue to be free if you use a Visa Debit card to make the withdrawal and meet the other criteria so the statement on my previous post is correct.

I should read my letters more carefully!!! Thank you for clarifying that. It did seem unfair when they are the same bank.

I checked last week with Santander as I was registering my debit card for use abroad - we have a 1/2/3 account and they confirmed that withdrawals at Santander ATM with the debit card would not incur a charge
