If you are about to book an ITV appointment then be advised that there seems to be a waiting time of about a month. That is for all three sites in Mallorca.

We normally do ours in Inca, but this time had to book in Manacor to get the earliest date.

Previously we could get an appointment within a few days

Anyone know why?

I understood that hire cars have to be tested when 2 years old or brought in from another autonomous region.

I also understood that there are 4 sites in Mallorca and not 3.

Just a thought but it could be absent owners and workers coming from the mainland who store their vehicles over the winter are returning to the island so need to get their ITV renewed.

Funny. It was four posts in before I realised what this thread was about. I spent a day wondering how hire cars would effect the satellite signal.....

There are 4 sites in Mallorca, not 3 as previously said. 2 in Palma, one in Inca and one in Manacor.

Now the only bookings are from 13th April

That sounds more likely Sparky as it coincides with the start of the season.Good point.

The same thing happens every Christmas, when due to a load of holidays, a months wait is the norm.

It doesn´t only happen in Mallorca, it occurs all over Spain, all one needs to do is read the press.

Apart from hire cars, which have to have it done after two years, generally get it done before it is due, as do taxis, so as not to have to take cars off the road during the high season.

Another reason is lack of staff. They hire extra staff during the "busy" period and lay them off in the winter.

With all due respect, I very much doubt that temporary hotel staff who earn around 1000/1200 euros a month and who happen to go back to the mainland after the season finishes, can afford to store a car here over the winter and run another vehicle in their home town or village.

Well it seems the reason is because of "new requirements" which means each test takes longer, here is a rough translation of a report in the UH.

Quote:
The Vehicle Inspection ( ITV ) of Mallorca is saturated by the new requirements in the review of passenger cars.

According to company sources, the detailed controls imposed recently in some parts of the control chain, forced to spend more time on each car. Hence, the delay being generated in this service usually had availability of appointment in a couple of days.

Of the four stations on the island, there is three hours until 14 April. In Manacor you can find a place on April 11 at the earliest, but only between 14 and 16 hours.

Today you have to wait an average of four weeks to pass the ITV tourism. While other possibility is to go directly to 7 am and queue to pass the review.

The dealership service company is already working to d esbloquear the situation . It has hired three more people and raised open thirty minutes a day to output volume demands.
The original report can be seen here :- Las nuevas exigencias en la revisión saturan la ITV » Local » Noticias » Ultima Hora Mallorca
