Default sorry - more questions!

ok, these questions are more health related, hope theres someone can help?

one of my children has glasses and her eyes change every 6 months, obviously in the uk its free, how does this work in Mallorca?

also, is it advisable to get private health insurance for a family of 4?

dentists? are children appointments free or not? same for doctors?

regarding the autonomo - if my husband pays into the system - does it include all of us? or do me and my husband have to pay autonomo if we both self employed

thanks in anticipation

Opticians and dentists are not free for anyone Spanish or English, but Specsavers have a place in Santa Ponsa. Don't know enough about the autonomo maybe someone that is self employed or working can help.

Hi Shelleps,

Regarding health insurance, it could be a good option, the system here is very good, but private insurance means you avoid such long waiting times (in most cases) and get to go to local doctors/hospitals for a lot of things like x-rays, etc. If you have no pre-existing conditions then it can be quite reasonable.
Regarding glasses specsavers are really cheap compared to other places.
Finally autonomos, I'm afraid while you and your children would be beneficiaries on the health system of your husband's autonomos, it does not cover you for working. However if you apply to be autonomo in what is called "regimen familiar" while you still have to pay the full payment (presently you get a 50% discount for the first 12 or 18 months) you only have to present one lot of paperwork, ie tax, vat payments that are done every three months and yearly tax returns, etc. This cuts costs down and is actually cheaper than employing someone full time as the social security fee is about 40% of the wage. You can't employ your spouse. And this is taking into account that the business if your husband's and you work for/with him. If they are two completely separate ventures then it wouldn't really work that way.

I would suggest consulting a gestor asap as many of these things are time consuming and you will need to be sure which way forward you are going....... Good luck with all these plans.

Paul Danks has an office infront of the Bankia in Puerto Pollensa, close to the square. He has been assisting Brits here in Mallorca for many years. Also I believe Toni de La Cruz provides a similar service. Good luck.
Much info. can be found on line too.
