Default Boring i know, but probs with ibRed

Hi
We have had a constant poor internet through ibRed. We are not on the phone line but have an antenna And during the summer months the service us virtually non-existant with everyone now streaming tv on the island. Weve been told we could use 4g at our place, but other people have told me thats pretty rubbish too! Anyone have any advice for someone like us without a phone line? (Perhaps we should get one...) our download speed was less than 1mg at some points over the summer......!
Thanks
Claire

Get a landline I think is your best option and use somebody like DT media who will provide phone internet and even TV

If you live in town, Ibred is currently implementing fiber optic cables that are supposed to go up to 300mb/s. I had the Ibred Wimax service for two years and it was good. I recently upgraded to the Ibred 4G service. It's much faster, but you are right, it is VERY slow during summer. The problem is that there is only one main cellular tower atop in Alcudia that serves everyone within at least 10km. If the new fiber is not available, than ordinary DSL (phone line) would be much more consistent in speed. Ibred has packages combined with land-line, tv, phone, and such. Now that Netflix has arrived in Spain, all providers will start stepping up their game. It's only a matter of time.

Perhaps Telefonica could contact BT and give them some tips on how to supply such speeds.
BT is advertising here 'Superfast' broadband which is classed as anything between 27 and 72 Mb. using 'fibre to the box' (at the top of the street) - with the the last few hundred yards or more via elderly copper or aluminium wires.
Thankfully I've got Virgin cable with a spanking 100Mb which is due for a free speed upgrade sometime this month. Virgins current top speed is 152Mb.

Is Telefonica running new fibre cable to each house/apartment?

Once they have installed into the street or as in our case apartment building, you then have to apply to a number they give you to have it brought into your house or apartment. At the moment if you use the phone number it is free, alternatively you can apply in the movistar shop, but I would recommend ringing them direct. Speed is much better than previously. there is a choice of 30MB or 300MB

Hi, we are looking to have a mifi (mobile wifi) device in our apartment next year. We are unsure whether to buy a device in the Uk and then a data SIM on the island or is there anywhere we can buy a mifi and Data SIM package. Can anyone recommend a service provider who can provide a decent data package, we would be happy to look at a contract rather than a PAYG. Thanks

I'm looking to get the Internet into my apartment, won't be used for calls I'd imagine. Who's best to use? Telefonica, IBRed, anyone else?
A phone socket is already installed so it's just a case of a connection and the paperwork I'd imagine?
My Spanish isn't good so do they all speak English?
Any advice/help appreciated.
Thanks.

Excuse my ignorance but can anyone offer advice as to the best way to get internet into our apartment without a phone line, to be used as and when we and our family are in apartment I.e, not all year round. Please don't get too technical, or I won't understand it!

Ask a (close and friendly) neighbour if you can use their WiFi connection.

Be warned though !

A man received the following text from his neighbour:

I am so sorry Bob. I've been riddled with guilt and I have to confess. I have been tapping your wife all the time. I'm not getting any at my house, but that's no excuse. I can no longer live with the guilt and I hope you will accept my sincerest apology, along with my promise that it won't happen again.

The man, feeling anguished and betrayed, went into his bedroom, grabbed his gun and without a word, shot his wife and killed her.

A few moments later, a second text message came in: Damn spell-check. I meant "wifi", not "wife".
