Default Playa Mar Changes

Hi, Just wondering if anyone knew the extent of the changes at the Playa Mar. We have been the last few years, returning this summer, and our understanding was that they were putting in a new splash pool and moving the main stage etc.

We too are visiting in May and are aware that there have been changes made that may not be running to time
Really hoping that everything is completed asap - we are bringing our parents for the first time too and have been singing the hotel and towns praises.

When I was told what I think they are doing (new pool and stage) thought it was quite a big job, but guess they will have had the full winter season to do it. One of the reps was saying it should create more room for beds which is much needed, hopefully all will be done for when you arrive.

We take our dog for a walk most mornings up near the Playa Mar & so I can give you some information on changes. At the far end of the pool area they have built a new two story building (possibly the new entertainment bloc) This now looks to be almost finished, the roof in on and the windows are now in, still some work to be done on the inside though.
The other changes are round the pool area, as they now have some very large & colourful animal characters for the kids. Toucans, a crab and a squirrel are just visible from the Formentor road!
Most of the builders seem to have now gone and there are just a few workmen remaining who are busily painting, tidying up and finishing off. So I am sure it should be finished just in time for the start of the season.

So pleased to hear this, we are due out next week and I have been really worried about it's progress. I will add to the report once back.

The Playa Mar has had a 2 million euro refurbishment. All work has been completed and the accommodation is now fully open. The rooms have been smartened up, stage moved and yes new splash pool with the "crab slides". Unfortunatelty the splash pool is now covered in health and safety notices, due to Thompson's health and safety auditors. Ironically this was passed by the Spanish health and safety authority. They have also built a new block but not sure where this is. Also you can go all inclusive if you wish..

Thanks for the feedback Fencer, sounds like the entertainment area has now moved to the back - this will hopefully free up some much needed subbed space!

Will be interested to get your feedback bluestar when you get back. Like to hear how much the rooms have changed - they did need a tidy up.

Just back from our 6th visit to the Playa Mar.The reception has a had a refurb and now have lovely cool white leather sofas, sleek lines and looks great.
The old entertainment room has been knocked through to the dining room and this is now a large open plan dining area. The decor is bleached white wood with stunning damson/plum coloured surfaces - similar self service as before but now some areas are for show cooking such as steaks etc.
The new 3 storey bulding is at the back of the complex - where the tennis court used to be and is now an emormous entertainment block with a large stage. The seating at the moment is not great - rows of seats then tables and chairs further back extending out onto the larger terrace. (The word is that this will be changed soon to make it more informal) The down side is there were a lot of children running around even when the proffesional acts were on later in nthe evening. Part of this building is the new larger kids club which opens up onto the childrens play area - much better in my opinion.
The new spa and indoor pool is located under this building but is not open yet - should be by July! The top floor is to be a gym not sure when this will be open. Work is ongoing on this building but the disruption didnt affect our enjoyment.
The large deep pool has now gone and has been replaced by a smart area for more sunbeds ( a shame really as our children have now got to the stage where they loved this pool for diving ect)
One massive change is the addition by the hotel - not Thomsons of a huge crab creature nicknamed Coolio! which incorporates 3 slides aimed at children aged 6 -13 years - I can see this being a problem in the busier months when it will be difficult to monitor who is on it! and a slightly smaller cow/toucon aimed at smaller children with smaller slides. When we first saw them (at night) we really didnt like them in fact my daughter really has a phobia about things like that but after a while depending on where you sit they were not an issue for us in fact both children enjoyed going on them.
The hotel staff and entertainment staff are brilliant nothing is too much trouble, even though we arrived at 11.30pm and things were closing for the eve the waiter rustled up some sandwiches for us.
The rooms are really no different to last year apart from a lick of paint, but to be honest at the price we paid we expected no more. You can now go all inclusive at this hotel but there seemed to be a mix of families doing this and some seft catering. For me it would be a crime not to have the chance to visit the wonderful restaurants in the Port.
We love this hotel but we always go in May -not sure if it would be the same in the summer hols.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like there have been a few cahnges then. Nice to hear that there is a bit more sunbed space, but disapointed that the deep pool has gone as our kids enjoyed jumping into that one.

The complex was made up of 3 pools, 2 which are linked by going under a bridge. One pool has a shallow end with a graded slope ideal for little ones and once under the bridge it gets deeper max about 5' 3 I can just about stand up on tip toes. The pool is usually quiet in the early mornings and late afternoons and it is possible to swim up and down but during the busier time its more of a lie on a lilo type of pool! It is the deeper 3rd pool that has gone.
The hotels tennis court has been replaced by the new entertainment building but the Pollensa football ground backs onto the hotel and is still visible from certain rooms.

Cpl of years ago we played on the pitch at the back a couple of times, but do not think u were really meant to as everyone climbed over the fence! Think that the rep from the hotel (Daz) sometimes sorts things out on there but he has been away last cpl of years that we have been there.

Thanks for the info Bluestar - I'm staying at the hotel later this month so it's reassuring to know that most of the building work is finished.
