They did open all year round about 6/7 years ago but it is not really financially viable for them. They would still need a certain number of staff to cover all the shifts, regardless of whether there are 20 or 200 people in the Hotel. They may be busy at xmas and New year then the rest of January the numbers would drop right down. They are actually opening a little later, and closed a little earlier, this year due to reduced numbers in February and November and also for the fact that they do need some time to do renovation work and give staff their annual holidays. Its easy to say that they would be busy but how many people on this forum are actually willing to pay the prices for a 4* Hotel when they can get an apartment at a third of the price? Lovely to go there for drinks, and wonderful to stay there, but its not within everyones price bracket or so convenient for families with young children.

Have to say, JMD, I think the Illa d'Or, as a place to stay, is vastly overrated - we did stay there in August a couple of years ago and were hugely disappointed. Not a four-star experience by anyone's standards. I gather there has been some refurbishment since but as I understand it this has mostly been of the public areas - and the bedrooms/bathrooms were frankly pretty grotty (and we had a superior room!) It seems very expensive for the level of service it offers and a major issue, for us as guests with children, was the lack of a real beach. As a venue for drinks it is glorious, but the hotel experience is less impressive - there are better places to stay on the Pine Walk, the Miramar for one.
