Default Air conditioning

We are looking to book a villa in Puerto Pollensa in July 2011. All of the villas we have looked at so far only seem to have air conditioning in the bedrooms. In mid summer would this be ok or would it be better to have air conditioning throughout? Any advice would be great!

I would suggest that just having it in the bedrooms is usually adequate as families tend to spend very little time in the house - you are probably more likely to be sat out on the terrace sipping wine than sat in the lounge watching TV . . . . . . however it depends on the type of holiday you are taking. If you have children you may wish to get them out of the mid day sun and sat in lounge with a dvd and wish to cool off???
There are plenty of houses that do have air con in the lounge also. Enjoy your holiday.

Hi sutty, I would say AC just in the bedrooms will be fine, we have stayed in places without AC in August and as long as they fans we have found it ok, its just at night you really need it, especially with kids when you want to get them off early. You can always hire portable AC units from the hire shops as well if the place you want to go to doesn't have any, as well as extra fans etc.

Air Con in bedrooms only is fine ...... and really useful in July and August

In fact most people have the doors from the lounge open so much of the time that aircon would be very inneficient ......... I have even heard of people who do have air con in their lounge having to add an override to their patio doors to automatically switch the aircon off whenever they are left open for more than a few minutes. Hard to think people would leave doors and windows wide open and air con on but as has been said lots of times, we all do things when on hols that we wouldn't dream of doing at home.

You will also find that your villa will probably have blinds / shutters which you can leave closed if you are out during the day and this will keep the sun from shining into the lounge area and therefore keep it cooler

Thanks so much everyone for replying. All of your comments really help! Now just to decide which villa to book...hard when you dont know the area really. Most of the villas we have seen are in Siller or Gotmar. Any prefrences anyone?

Gotmar (Gommar) as thats where our villa is! lol

Seriously both areas are nice and are walkable to the beautiful beach and centre of town. It really depends on what you are looking for.

Whatever you decide, i'm sure you will enjoy and have a great time.

Thanks Eleanor On a different site someone mentioned that they thought the villas were too far away from the centre of things which concerned me a little. There again after a few drinks we won't mind the trek home will we?!

It obviously depends where the villa is. We have timed our walk into the centre as being 12 minutes although he with longer legs and more stamina has done it in ten! lol
Some parts of Siller are further out so obviously will take longer. The walk from Gommar is easy along a new footpath. Or there is a cut through to the front too which takes slightly longer but is a much better view along the Bay.
