Wasn't it also the reason why the planning laws in the Port became quite strict?
I think I was once told that because of the Pollensa Park, it was decided to limit the height of buildings built therefore ensuring that PP would not become another high rise tourist area.

The council obviously benefits from the money raised by the annual fines that the Polypark pays as well as the fines from the Daina for their illegally built swimming pool. Unlike in the UK where the planning authorities would have ordered the structures to be demolished.

Sadly though height is not the problem - you get the odd high rise everywhere. The problem is the never ending expansion of the port on areas that were supposed to be protected such as the hill at the back of the port - that was protected land that should never have been built on but look at it now

I fear that council pockets are deep and receptive!!

GG,
As an owner in Bellauba, I agree with what u are saying but I am sure that when Bellauba was built many people were disappointed. Altho apparently till this day, the original architect still has some input with the community and refuses to let any of the trees be pulled down on the basis that u bought a place in a forest, so live with it !
When the 'scar' behind Bellauba was built, I couldnt believe how they just ripped out all the 'greenery' ... it is bare, it doesnt blend in any way and they only nice thing about it, is the fabulous traditional retaining walls.
But on a positive note, it would appear that at least the remaining hillside is being sold off in 'plots'... for private builds as in individual houses and much of the vegitation is left. Not perfect, I know, but better than nothing !

It worked for us... and was our base when we decided where & when we would buy our own place.

I have stayed in a lot worse and a lot better but found it 'reasonable' especially when having a very young teenager in tow. (I will give a date to this comment as I realise all things change - 2000) As for families with young children, at that time they were very well catered for.. and happy weans means happy holiday.

I find the Alcudia references a bit harsh... Not having ever stayed in Alcudia I can only speak on a visual level and the 'bad' of Alcudia is bad and wouldn't say that the Pollensa Park comes anywhere close.

Anyone thinking about maybe going there in the future (rumours aside ! ) go eat there, arrange at reception... buffet thingy. And just drop in... use the pool, if u buy a drink there didn't seem to be a prob. Likewise in the evenings, u can just 'join in' whatever the entertainment is.

And what of thier recent SPA image... anyone got any info on that ?

Totally agree GG. Gone are the days when you looked at a mountain - or hill - and thought, That will be like that forever. Such a shame.
I read recently somewhere that there is a lobby group of some type, working towards the saving of the Tramontana mountains and close areas, turning them into national treasures or protected areas, which will effectively stop any building on them. Hope they get somewhere before its too late. Gets my vote!

Med777, went to the Spa area last week for a treatment and was very impressed. Prices good and areas look clean. Think I might try out the Spa area properly before they close at €8 for a day pass it sounds good to me.
