I agree with eleanor and bella that as owners who advertise and take bookings directly it would be akin to shooting youself in the foot to 'sugar coat' descriptions to get a booking. Looking at it from the other side of the coin it works both ways. Most people treat properties they have rented with respect and leave them clean and tidy.I know some horror stories of those who haven't! When you build up a rapport with people , those people know that the owner will know how they have left a property, as opposed to letting via agents where you haven't a clue who will be going to stay

Absolutely Debz. The majority of people who we have rented to have been great and have looked after the property. I truly believe this is because we talk directly and we get to know each other. Having said that we have had a few that we would not wish to accept again. People break things and hope it isn't noticed. We actually had a set of curtains taken from a bedroom once. The renters denied taking them and tried to blame the cleaner! We had a phone line but hid our phone only to later learn when the bill came in that a particular renter had plugged a phone in which they had got from somewhere, and used the line. We no longer have a phone line! This incident happened when a rental company had 'control'. We have never charged a deposit but from next year intend to do so a a safe guard. You would be surprised just how many renters forget to return the keys. Each time this happens we have to have the locks changed. This all costs money. The good renters won't mind paying a deposit - those who question perhaps should be questioned! So as Debz says - it isn't all one way - To build a good relationship between owner and renter can only be beneficial to both sides.

Absolutely Debz, i have been shown the state some places are left in i don't understand how people can do that sort of thing, i always treated places i rented with more respect than my own.
Can i just reiterate that i did not say owners or anyone "sugar coated" anything, once again one of my posts has been twisted into something i did not say.

My method of selecting a villa is to obtain brochures from 2/3 of the Companies who advertise on here so that I can get a wide comparison of villas/prices which suit our needs - which vary as to how many of the family are in our party, prepare a short list, research those in more detail (occasionally including speaking to the Agents ) and make a choice.
I sometimes ask whether anyone has any personal experience of a particular villa - but to date no one ever has.
On those occasions when I have needed further information on a Villa from the Agents they have never let me down as their answers have been accurate.
At the end of the day it's down to me to make an informed decision.
As Fullos seems to tick all the boxes for our needs this year I will probably go ahead with that.

Hope you have a great time Kezza, at the end of the day its always down to your own decision taking everything into account, I am sure it will be great and if you like you can do a review of the villa to help people in the future

Just a brief comment on the debate about relying on what Agents/Owners say I have only experience of what Agents have said and that experience has been positive to date and I have never been misled.
Having said that I have been around long enough to know that it is a real world out there and not everybody will be honest with you so at the end of the day it is down to me to get as much information as possible in order to make a judgement ( Hopefully the right one!.)

A very balanced view Kezz, I'm sure most companies will be honest as well as the owners, after all, it's their living as well! And I'm sure sometimes owners wish they could have more information on those who are renting their properties too!
I'm sure when you started this thread you had now idea where it would end up - always a surprise! Have a great holiday!

Thank you for your feedback Kezza. I think what you are doing is entirely right & the best thing that anyone can do is to make contact with either the owner or agent and ask questions. It is when information is not forhcoming that anyone should be cautious.

Sparky is quite right in that a lot of people are concerned when they book any holiday that the 'description' in the advert may not paint a complete picture. This concern is entirely understandable. I am regularly contacted by visitors to the site who ask me for reassurances about both private rentals and villa companies. I always do what I can to reassure people albeit that we haven't viewed any of the properties and can never offer guarantees but at least we are at the end of the telephone.

Please do carry on posting here if you have any information about Villa Fullos (as we do seem to have gone off-thread here.)

Thank you.

Thanks Belladonna and Pollensa,
Yes what started off as a simple question seems to have "sparked" off ( forgive the pun ) a "lively" debate which I followed with interest.
It is important to try to "read between the lines" re descriptions/ pictures in brochures which as Sparky says may not paint the complete picture.
I am not a prolific poster but I do try to keep up to date with what is going on.
I find the site and the forum most helpfulin doing so.
Hope to complete a booking/flights within the next 24 hours

Yes Sparky, I accept what you are saying here. I know very well just how it feels to have something said twisted as it happens to me quite often!

All sorted.
Decided to book a holiday last Sunday, telephoned 3 Companies who advertise on the site on Monday to request brochures, prepared a short list of half a dozen from the brochures, narrowed it down to Villa Fullos as first choice and booked it late yesterday afternoon. The two ladies I spoke to at Sealand Villas were most helpful and efficient.
Cheers,
Keith

Muchas gracias Sparky.
We are so looking forward to it after not being able to get across last year.
We find our PP holiday so relaxing and really feel "at home " there.
Cheers,
Keith
