I'm sorry that you feel this way as I was about to say the same as Sparky. We have always allowed 'punters' i.e. consumers, to comment on accommodation be it hotels or private rentals, travel companies etc., restaurants & other local businesses.

What we haven't allowed is 'self-advertising' by businesses or owners who have not paid to advertise as this is not fair on paying advertisers.

Having said that, if anyone does have an issue with a private rental then we would request the guest to take it up with the owner in the first instance & if that does not resolve the issue AND it was advertised with us, then email us & the matter will be discussed off-line. This has actually only ever happened on a very few occasions in the 9 years that we have been running the site.

I have no intention of inviting reviews (in the manner of trip advisor etc.) but if a guest wishes to recommend somewhere as has been done in this thread & in a few others, then I cannot see the problem.

Fine to recommend but my issue would be a constant flow of negative posts. The environment changes constantly and attitudes and views change accordingly. As for restaurants etc. if they receive a negative post then they are in a position to change it i.e. change the chef, change the table clothes whatever. With a property it isn't always possible to things and again views differ.

I see my last post has been edited with the reason 'personal comment removed'. That implies that I have been rude or abusive - certainly not the case! I simply referred to another website!

Regretably, I am now closing this thread as some matters are better discussed offline (it was not abusive just better discussed privately) & have nothing to do with this thread which started off as an interesting recommendation about a rental that 'bannergal' stayed in so thank you for that bannergal.
