April villa only prices

I have just had the shock of my life! (slight exaggeration there)

I rented a villa in Pollensa last April with Thomson/Simply travel and it was only £260 for a week in April.

The same villa 2010 is now £1026 for the same week! This doesnt include a car or flights. It's not even at Easter! We are talking a simple villa without heating/air con and a small pool, nothing flash! Are Thomsons serious or has a computer pricing system messed up?

Whilst I realise £260 was very cheap, what is the reason for such a massive increase?

WOW! That does sound a bit extreme! Did you do a late booking before to get such a good price?

Hi

£260 MUST have been a loss leader price for Thompsons

BUT over a thousand pounds in April for the same Villa does seem a big price hike

Have you looked at the private rentals on this site and compared prices for a similar sized Villa for the same weeks ........... it will give you an idea re whether you got a real bargain last year or this years rate is overpriced

The company which takes care of renting our villa out, although small and obviously not able to offer special offers on that scale, did in fact reduce prices significantly for 2009 because they were expecting it to be a bad year in view of the global recession. Certainly Pollensa was emptier than I have ever known it in April. I think prices have gone back up again for 2010. There were a lot of good deals around earlier this year but I doubt we will be seeing them again (until the next recession, that is).

So if no takers at low prices last year, presumably even less with price hikes in 2010?

Personally, I can't see us all being out of recession and massively better off just one year on. It will be very interesting to hear everyone's reports as we go through the next year.
