Has anyone else noticed the creeping ubiquity of hoposa.com?

Previously independent and genuinely eclectic establishments are gradually becoming one and the same.

The giveaway sign is the tell-tale Orange menu. You see it at the Daina, at the Pollentia, at the Hotel Niu in Cala San Vincenc. You spot it a breakfast bar on the pine walk. You'll find it in Cafe Illa in Pollensa Square and at the cafe at the foot of the Calvari steps.

The menu is the same. The food is the same. All sourced from a single depot. All cooked to the same depressingly low standard. Sadly it's all part of the move to an orange homogeneity in the area.

Even the Illa D'Or is part of this bourgeoning, all-encompassing, thoroughly dispiriting group.

Same principal as the Tex-mex (excluding Nico's), all the food is prepared in MURO then shipped down. As you say depressing, welcome to corporate PP!

Just to set the record straight I think you will discover that Hoposo is the name for the Hotelera Pollencina group which runs many of the hotels in PP - and has done for MANY MANY years so this is not somebody coming in and taking over the Port as you imply. The Daina, Uyal, Pollentia, Capri, Villa Concha, Bahia, and several more have been run by them for as long as I can remember. The Orange Bar at the Daina Pool was a venture a couple of years ago and it worked very well. New to the portfolio this year is the Niu in Cala. The menu is bland as it is a hotel snack menu not an a la carte restaurant and offers what the majority of its regular clients and passing trade require who are on a half board basis or visiting on a day trip.
I hardly think this hotel group can be compared with the Tex Mex do you and no, I am not connected with them in any way. . . ..

Default The futore's not bright

Whoops!

Thanks for the clarification. And really sorry if I've mistakenly misled or upset anyone. I think it's possible that they're simply applying common standards more rigorously across some of their outlets this year - so it's just become more noticeable.

As I've said, it was most evident when we went to Hotel Niu in CSV. The menu had changed, the staff were unhappy so it was only natural that we should look at the ownership to see if it, too, had changed.

Interstingly, the Cala Barques restaurant is now offering EXACTLY what Hotel Niu was offering with some of the old staff and doing a roaring trade on Sunday lunchtime, whilst Hotel Niu was totally empty. So there must be a lesson there.

Sorry again. I suppose my point is not that hoposa are taking everything over, it's just that their management is clearly doing something different across the board. That's their perogative. it's just not to my own particular liking. But don't let that put other people off!

Graham
