Default Lost trees.

Indeed, cosmetic damage is no real problem but yet more trees lost is. Think someone did post that new ones were being replanted?

I hope they're substantial enough for the mindless idiots who try to pull them up/damage them?

Beach people and Costas ahve done a good job getting it mainly cleared up, unfortunately one of the oldest pine trees at the Llenaire beach end has had to be cut down

Yes nick, there has been substantial replanting around the area, both on and off of the beach, but these will take a few years to get to anything like the older ones unfortunately. But you have to start somewhere. Sad to hear about the Llenaire one falling foul of the weather though, was it a beach one or a road side one does anyone know?

It wasn't the weather I don't think the tree was dead.

I love trees and hate it when we lose any of them but i suppose even they can't live forever .

That's right Sparky.
Removal of trees anywhere, whether it be PP or the UK, is a very emotive subject for many people. But do remember, trees need to be 'managed' for many reasons. Overhanging limbs, disease, age, etc. (sounds like some members of the forum!!!).
In some parts of PP some larger trees have overhanging limbs which probably weigh several 'tons'. Others have outgrown the footpath they stand in. I can immediately think of at least one of these in the path / main road between Pinaret and Llenaire. So there are many reasons for removing trees - they will not be removed just for the sake of it. Enlightened Councils will also replace the removed trees with saplings and also put them where there is space to grow. E.g. The new trees recently planted in PP on the beach area in the vicinity of Llenaire (see photo's previously posted on this forum).

Roadside, and it must have been the weather as it appeared to be healthy

Shame. I'm sure they would have worked out the replanting to replace it though - hopefully!

OMG!!!! another tree gone .

This has just been posted on FB by the Ajuntamenta :-

The tree was about 90 years old, fallen because of the rains and winds, and roots weakened.

That's terrible Sparky. I see that tree is one of the giants by the Pine Walk Villa that has been and is undergoing huge refurbishment (gutted and rebuilt). So many of the old pines are succumbing and most that remain look incredibly precarious.

Only yesterday morning we walked past this old tree and commented that it could do with being propped up. If I remember correctly it was clear that it had recently moved .....the 45degree angle of the nearby litter bin being the most obvious sign.

I do wonder whether there is a correlation between building work and loss of trees - remember the one lost from just outside the building work by Little Italy last year.

I just wish more action could be taken to make these trees less vulnerable - even if it meant pruning and thinning ...... Replanting is essential and absolutely correct once a tree is lost but as they say prevention is better than cure
