Does anyone know what sorts of snakes do you get in Mallorca?? I have seen small squashed ones on the road between LLenaire and Pollensa before.

I don't think there are any poisonous ones are there??

There are a couple of different ones I think, one is a water snake see those in ponds etc, and one quite big one, 3ft long, saw one up in the hills above Orient a few years ago, not poisonous, anyone know their proper names, and don’t say Sid.

The 'False smooth' snake is venomous and found on Mallorca.

Only a mild bite apparently

Snakes

Balearic False Smooth Snake, Macroprotodon cucullatus

We had a snake in the garden of a rental villa last year near Pollensa, not sure which type it was, but makes you very wary when you see a snake in the garden, even more worrying when you dont know where it went and cant find it

What a superb resource Mark. Thanks very much. This should be listed as a sticky in Flora and Fauna

Well as all three of you know, you are all taller than me but just to clarify Bella it is "The Puppy in the Mountain" and Debs i can't wait to get back home and make sure he is still there, i hope he isn't afraid of snakes, ME, i am petrified of the things so i won't be doing any country/mountain walking .
