Default Tree puzzler

We have noticed that small black discs have been inserted in the pavement along side trees - not just along the front but on side streets too..has anyone got any idea what they are for. They were not there in July 😏😏

I wonder if it's some sort of "tree health" monitoring system, maybe a precaution since the pine tree fell in the square .

Was wondering myself and saw a couple of young lads installing them so stopped to ask. They are micro chips that monitor the trees, the info is downloaded regularly to a central computer.
Seems they they are in Pollensa as well.
