Default Airport taxes

Last week it was announced that Ryanair & BMIBaby would charge passengers the extra airport tax even if they have already booked & paid for flights.

Ryanair and BMI Baby slap extra Spanish tax on flyers, even if they've already paid

Plus another story this week, looks like it will be automatically charged. But good news is that Palma airport is one of the cheapest at approx £1.50 pp.

Ryanair and BMI Baby to auto-charge cards for Spanish tax hike

I had booked and paid for winter flights from Palma to Lanzarote with Vueling. Just over a week ago I got an email saying that due to the increase in Spanish airport tax I'd have to pay an additional 21 euros. My email stated that this was due to my booking originating in Spain, and my parents who booked flights from Edinburgh to Lanzarote through Thomson, have not been asked to pay additional tax.

If additional tax only applies to bookings that originate in Spain I'm not sure how Ryanair and BMI can justify forcing people to pay the increase in tax... Maybe if you essentially book two one-way flights the return flight from Spain could be liable for the increase...
