Sometimes if a flight is cancelled a few weeks before it is due it is as a result of servicing being required on that plane. When the engine(s) clock up a certain number of hours there are stringent laws that they must have an overhaul. It is impossible to acurately determine the date/time as planes often sit around with engines running due to air traffic control etc etc. In recessionary times it is cheaper for an airline to cancel rather than replace so Snowy you may well be on a well serviced totally checked out SleezyJet flight.

Correct Sun - due to costs a considerable number of airlines are now having their annual checks/servicing in India where labour rates are significantly lower [and therefore worth the journey] - actually EasyJet have just awarded their contracts to a firm based in Malta. For minor problems all of the airlines either have a resident engineer or access to same.

I think it's far more likely that the airline doesn't want to fly a half empty plane, as if often the case early on in the season? Much easier to have a full plane doing one journey than two journeys with a virtually empty plane. Also for them it's common sense and more profitable, which you can understand. However for travellers who have booked their accomodation it is a major inconvenience. In all the years we've been flighing Easyjet we have never had a flight cancelled before so don't believe for one moment it's due to the planes needing a service!!

We were on the same return flight as Snowy but will just have to spend another day in PP now !!!

Debz/Snowy - I can assure you that lack of passenger numbers/bookings is not accepted by the authorities as sufficient grounds to cancel a flight (EC Regulation 261/2004) and indeed if this was proven to be the case the airline concerned would be heavily fined (cost likely to be greater than operating an empty flight) .... for any cancelation the airline would seek approval (giving their valid reasoning) before advising any passengers. It is normal for the airline to either offer you a return of payment or an alternative date. What you should do is firstly check if that alternative date (with either your carrier or another) can be obtained at a lesser price. If so rather than just accepting the alternative date book at the lower price then seek full reimbursement of your original flight.

when we flew out to PP in Jan the plane was only 2/3 full and we advised that there were only 64 people booked on its rtn journey back to Bristol so it doesnt seem like its due to a half empty plane
