Exclamation Globespan - In Administration

There has been a lot of recent press publicity about Globespan, a major player from Scottish airports to Palma, selling flights and packages. See extracts from the Guardian below.

"Concern is mounting over the future of financially stretched FlyGlobeSpan.com, the Scottish package holiday and budget airline business, which has not yet received promised funds from a would-be white knight investor."

"Small print on the FlyGlobeSpan.com website reveals that, should the company become insolvent, the cost of repatriations and refunds related to package holidays would be covered by a so-called ATOL bond. However, terms and conditions on flights bought outside a package do not mention ATOL."

You have been warned!

Adios

not good reading ! from either side of the fence.....

Who is going to want, in the near future to take the chance on booking a flight only ? so that will help the Co's cash flow probs ... not !

That's one of the probs... media chinese whispers... and whooosh, off it goes!

Fingers crossed that it works out for them..... and for joe public too!

not good news for us scots if they did go down, that'd only leave easyjet from gla and edn and ryanair from prestwick, even less competetion to keep prices down

haven't flown globespan for a few years as imo very expensive and we tend to travel south for flights but i'm sure many rely on them

would be sad also as i believe they were one of the companies doing packages to pp in the early days

Med, As you say who's going to risk 100's of pounds on such uncertainty. The quicker they sort it out, one way or the other, the better. Would hate to see them go as there's not a great deal of choice from Scottish airports, don't fancy being left at the mercy of Ryanair if they are the only choice.

Default Globespan enters administration

Globespan enters administration

(16 December 2009)
Scottish airline and package holiday company Globespan has entered administration.

Staff were informed of the Edinburgh-based airline's collapse this afternoon and a source confirmed administrators have been appointed.

The airline was awaiting funding from Halcyon Investmentsm a Jersey-based investment company controlled by E-Clear, an online credit card payment processing business.

Gers

It would be a shame if they stopped flying from GLA and EDI - we need competition to keep prices low. I believe flights from GLA and EDI pay over the odds compared to southern airports. They also fly to Palma every day from April to Oct. That's an awful lot of people looking for alternative flights or alternatively, choosing to go elsewhere.

Yes Globespan were one of the companies offering packages to PP. They still do. I believe they own Bellamar Apts, Sis Pins hotel and La Singala apts. These could be up for sale if things go bad.

Adios

search on 'globespan administration' in Google & watch the Tweets...

& the adverts of other companies already offering alternative flights/holidays

Very sad

This is not good news in the slightest for people flying from Scotland. I flew with Ryanair a couple of weeks ago from Prestwick and their service was fine. If you know the rules and stick to them Ryanir can be fine. I just hope they increase the frequency of their service.

This is bad news for Scotland and bad news for PP.

Globespan own the Sis Pins, La Singala and the Alexia apartments in Gommar and all of these can be booked directly on their website.

This "demise" has been brewing for about one month and surfaced again at the weekend.

On a personal basis we have come since 1997 on about ten trips, on a package with them, and four or five with Thomson. Everything about them leaves Thomson for dead and looking the other day at their website they have just about all the hotels in PP on offer for next year, so I'd hope something gets sorted out PDQ.

We've also used them for three great short breaks to Palma, and to Cambrils and Torremolinos on the mainland. great holidays , to "quality "hotels, a much overused and abused word these days.

God help decent, respectable people if we are left to Easy, Ryanair, Thomson and Thomas Cook!

Survive, Globespan please!

FGS they are the airline flying the guys back and forward to Afghanistan and the Falklands on secure MOD contracts!

A sad and worried Porto!
