Unhappy debit card charges

Hi

Finally decided to book our annual visit to PP after much deiscussion about exchange rates and cost but was shocked to find that even paying with a debit card I was going to be charged 2.99% of the total bill .Now I could understand if it were a credit card where they may be a delay in thr Co getting the money but weith a debit card the money leave my account there and then. Total charge was going to be £33.84 just was not prepared to pay this .I rang the Co and thankfully they haveb an office in Glasgow so I can go in and pay in cash . Just hope they have the room that I am looking for when I get in at lunchtime tomorrow.
Has anyone else had this issue ?Dont know if I should mention the Co buts its a very well known one .I understand a booking fee but not this charge .

Cheers

Scotty Lady

Default visa electron card

Hi Scotty Lady

Have you considered applying for a visa electron card/account.They are free and easy to set up with most banks and most low cost airlines don't charge anything for this type of transaction. If you use the budget airlines regularly it is well worth applying for one.You just have to ensure you have enough money in the electron account to cover the transaction.

I'd suggest that you write to them & ask them what they get charged by their card processing company. This is only an example but with Worldpay I get charged a percentage for Credit Cards but only 50p for Debit Cards. I don't know how it world for other card processors but I thought it was similar.
